Out of curiosity, did you have either PAs or OCC enabled?

I vaguely recall seeing some code that does not check for victories in the first 10 or 20 turns, the purpose being so a civ doesn't lose if it has no cities because it hasn't founded its first one yet. I'll look at code later at home.

On original settings both of these were off. However sunrise launched the game so he might have changed something when doing that.

+1 - There really is no need to comment this unless directly asked and even then might be wisdom not to respond.

+2. Seriously people, I know it's fun, and I'm excited as anyone about seeing how this plays out but YOU ARE NOT PLAYING IN THIS GAME!

Holy crap, this thread went nuts over the past day or so.

Cultural victory was enabled, and I'm on a team with 2 ai. I took our 3 cities up to 2 culture below legendary, let them tick over on the next turn. They all turned legendary. I ended turn, no victory.
Since that test took me literally five minutes, it does make me wonder what Team 2 is thinking here. You can't win on turn 5 regardless of qualifying circumstances. End turn a few more times and you'll see the cultural victory.

However, I think Parkin exacerbated things slightly...
And then they just never checked for themselves? In fairness, I gave them this information right at the start of the game in response to an offhand query. And for the record, I was right. Though checking for themselves would have been sensible too.
plako Wrote:I decided to make my own test and it did work for me. There is attached a SP save. Aksum is already Legendary. Pushing couple of times enter Moscow will get to legendary and you can finish the job with Artist in Mutal that also finishes the game. I don't know what is the problem with other test scenarios, but at least this works.
Is there some setting here that is not right in my save or why haven't you got it working?
I let the game roll a bit longer until T25. Maybe that has something to do with this. It has everything to do with it.

Darrell I agree... that's a perfect example of why we ought to be careful, even with "game mechanics" related questions/comments.

If you're honestly making a gameplan based on this, it might be a good idea to double check, because it's been years since I played base BTS. And this is half remembered stuff from my OCC games from even longer ago than that. However, I think Parkin exacerbated things slightly...Lord Parkin Wrote:This is incorrect, I'm pretty sure the cities do all have to belong to one teammate. EDIT: Actually I'm wrong. I just tested it and the 3 cities can be distributed amongst teammates however you like. This isn't at all clear from the F8 screen - in fact it's downright obfuscated. Hmm, that's not good. And then they just never checked for themselves? pindicator Wrote:ASM is gonna flip out if he gets there and it doesn't work. Especially because, if it doesn't work, PARKIN gave him bad information. But yeah... it looks like T2 is correct after all.
I find it amazing that this game has been out for six and a half years but the best players of it are still being surprised by the way some parts of it work.
It's not even the game mechanics are difficult to figure out; it's just that there is such overwhelming depth to the game.

Anyone who disagrees is welcome to test it for themselves. Just remember to move past the first few turns where you can't win regardless.

I would have just left the original post, or blanked it completely. Replacing it with a note indicating in no uncertain terms that "there was something spoiler-related here" is just like setting off an alarm with flashing lights and blasting sirens. Pretty much everyone uses email notifications, and Sullla would certainly have a copy of the original post in his emails as he posted right before the offending message. I know I've flicked back to them occasionally when e.g. a highly offensive post is moderated at CFC (to see for amusement what the original one actually was).
Let's remember in future not just to avoid posting information obtained in one thread into another thread, but to avoid drawing further attention to such mistakes if and when they do happen.

I think Spulla would read that post via-email no matter what that person would have editied it. We now know that Spulla uses e-mail for his thread so never edit posts guys.
Because team3 & team2 were right we don't need to do anything for them.
It is unclear if team1 should be informed about this. I really don't care that much because not answering the question would help team1 do to metagame issues.
