To be honest I kind of agree that they should be disabled (still hoping that it works of course, although I'd also like to see how the Kremlin/CR combo stacks up against factories). That's the sort of thing we could have agreed on ahead of time, if Sulla/Speaker hadn't been in such a rush to start the game as quickly as possible. Oh well, hopefully this game will serve as a good example.
Isn't this more of a fault of the map though? It's only because it's been so hard to attack that's it's been possible for team two to survive long to have a chance at this. In a normal game wouldn't they have gotten scavenged long ago?

Yeah, but disabling those victory conditions, enables an interesting map like this, without destroying what I see as the primary purpose...lot's of ![]() Darrell Tyrmith Wrote:Isn't this more of a fault of the map though? Nobody had a real army until recently- I think they pretty much need MGs or infantry to have a unit that can shrug off massive catapult barrage. Of course things would have been different if it had been a smaller, crowded map but then we never would have tried the CV.
I think it's awesome. I don't think it's cheap, at all. It's audacious, it takes a ton of planning and some amount of metagaming deception (I love the retrospectives thread)

Yep, I'm going to (obviously) weigh in pro-CV too. In fact, I even like the Quick Speed discount, it's very much needed for an MP attempt to even be in the realm of possibility. CVs are hard against humans, much as they are silly-easy against AI. This isn't "playing it wrong" this is "playing it different" which I like to see. Luddite/Lewwyn/ASM are all solid normal BtS players, they certainly could have opted for a bog standard space-or-dom game like Teams 1 and 3 are going for and done okay, although I'm still of the opinion that Team 1 is in a cakewalk here vs. 3.
Team 2 is at least giving an entertaining show, and tossing a lovely Prisoner's Dilemma as they do so. Dave and crew are smarter than Sulla and his buds, I believe we've proven. Sulla's just better at Civ.

That's a bit harsh, Com. Mostly I just think Sulla and Speaker have been massively overconfident in this game, never questioning whether anything could go wrong and not really trying very hard. Meanwhile team 3 has been playing their hearts out, especially OleDavy, who has really done an insane amount of work in keeping track of exactly what all the other teams did and micromanaging 3 separate civs. That really counts for a lot, and it looks to me like they're rapidly catching up to team 1 in tech. Anyway I'm glad this game is headed for such an exciting finish!
