RBP7 [SPOILERS] - The Chronicles of Nyania

We're up against two cities with 40% defence and at least half a dozen Archers between them. Rather difficult to crack pre-Catapults. wink Not a particularly big deal though, we've got plenty of other land to expand to in the meantime and an easy-to-defend chokepoint. Might go around on a pillaging campaign at some stage soon if it looks like it'll still be a while before we can take him out - could do with the gold as well as slowing down his tech progress.

We got the Parthenon! dance

There was even a special guest appearance at the opening ceremony. smile

Not only will that help the borders at Trololopolis, but more importantly, it'll help net us a huge amount of early Great Scientists from Pwnage. Superb!

Pwnage itself will be finishing the National Epic next turn. Because Great Person Points are added from a wonder on the turn that it is built (rather than the turn after, as would seem logical), we should actually get our first Great Person next turn. It'll almost certainly be a Great Scientist, so if it is we'll build our Academy and then turn research back up to 100% to get to Monarchy ASAP.

Oh, and Azza definitely has Iron now. No mistaking the telltale 1f/5h plains tile. At least we can produce 1-turn shock Axes in Aybabtu to counter any metal units Azza can throw at us, so it really shouldn't be much of an issue.

We've managed to sneak into third place - albeit barely - this turn. Our best position so far! Sunrise still has quite an alarming lead though.

National Epic finished, and we built an Academy in Pwnage.

That'll improve our research rate a bit. Still need to get some economic techs ASAP though.

Here are our demographics at 100% research. GNP is 100 when we're at 0% research.

Oh... and if you hadn't noticed already, we've managed to eke into second place this turn. Amazing... no doubt due to points from our four recent wonders (including National and Heroic Epics).

Great Person plan for the next ~50 turns, assuming a steady 37 GPP/turn:
Second GP - T113 (+6 turns)
Third GP - T121 (+8 turns)
Fourth GP - T132 (+11 turns)
Fifth GP - T145 (+13 turns)
Sixth GP - T161 (+16 turns)

Each time it should be 90+% odds of a Great Scientist (the remainder being a chance of a Great Artist from the National Epic). Once we can build other buildings which allow GP slots (e.g. Markets), we can probably speed up some of the later GP's.

I'm considering settling the next one or two Great Scientists, as that'll help our immediate research more than anything else (+10.5 beakers per turn right now, and +1 hammer per turn in Pwnage). Plus we'll have plenty spare for bulbing when the time comes. Getting to Currency, COL, and Civil Service more quickly will be very worthwhile though, since the earlier we get past those bottlenecks the sooner we can branch out and start researching towards the really good military stuff.

HitAnyKey apparently founded Christianity this turn - an 18 point score jump, far more than anyone else. Very interesting - wouldn't have expected his tech rate was that good, but maybe he beelined it.

We're focussing on maximizing beaker output at the moment, to get to those bottleneck techs as fast as possible.

A decision to be made shortly - do we go for Monotheism before Monarchy? It'd save roughly ~70-80 beakers from the extra multiplier on Monarchy, at a cost of ~200 beakers for the tech. Hard to say, but I'm thinking we should maybe wait on it. Getting to each of Monarchy, Currency, and Code of Laws a few turns sooner could easily save us at least as many beakers. Main thing is whether we'll still be able to switch 2 civics in 1 turn by the time we get Bureaucracy.

Can someone remind me - what's the prerequisite for being able to switch 2 civics in 1 turn on a Huge map on Normal speed? Was it something like having less than ~17 cities, or something else? Would be good to know for sure.

We're going to have to have at least two turns of anarchy for civic switches - one for Hereditary Rule soon and the other one later for Bureaucracy - and we might want to tack Organized Religion onto one of them. Although, one thought... it's possible we might want to consider running Caste System post-Code of Laws, so that might require another civic switch.

Of course, we don't have a religion right now to make use of the religious civics, but with HitAnyKey getting one next door, it's possible we'll have one before too long. Hmm, lots to think about.

Yes, the 17th city for Huge on Normal adds more anarchy.

You'd have to conquer a city with it, since religion can't auto-spread through a state of war.

Thanks for the information, T-hawk.

By the way, do you know anything about whether events can strike twice in the same place? Specifically, the "free research from city ruins" event. Just wondering whether if I leave that tile unimproved all game, there's a chance I'll get the event again at some point or not.

Hi LP, no. 2 on the score board... You will become more and more popular...

Is it too early to have a specific plan to win, other than the broad brush of kill them all?

As this is a casual game, have you given any thought about how to casually win? An emphatic win would seem to go against the casual theme, so I was wondering how you might factor this aspect of the game set up into a win strategy? [this is a serious if maybe odd enquiry].

I don't know about recurring events. Just the conventional wisdom that it seems to be possible because folks seem to remember getting a slave revolt twice at one city.
