I'll take a look at software recording too in case I need to be a backup for dave, although I don't have a digital camera (although anyone could do that). Obviously, whoever does the recording should be logged into France. I don't have anything like Teamspeak right now, but it shouldn't be too difficult for me to download.
As for promoting Rifles, we should definitely promote some to formation with the Cuirs they now have. Maybe a couple to pinch too, but otherwise IMO we should leave most stuff unpromoted. The problem with promoting everything is that Lewwyn can just send in collateral on us and we need to spend some time healing up before taking on Beijing; since we're on a tight enough schedule as it is we probably can't afford to do that.
I don't know, if he just collaterals us, we knock down the defenses, send in cannons which did save promotions, and then even our collateralred units will have odds.
My impulse is that we shouldn't promote anything. I think we have enough rifles and machine guns that he won't be able to kill much if anything. And frankly, as far as I'm concerned, attacking out is the best thing he could do. Lewwyn, PLEASE sack all your catapults into our stack. If not, they'll just absorb hits behind Beijing's walls and delay us, perhaps fatally, in our attempt to take the city. Also, with only 4+ cuirassiers, I'm not too worried about what Lewwyn might do with them. That's 2 flanks, tops.
I'll look into downloading Ventrillo something tomorrow.
I'm just not confident we'll actually be able to survive everything he has on the flatland. Perhaps we should do a rough sim of things (say just divide by four or something to make it manageable).
Ok, so I ran a simulation just dividing by 5 (I'm assuming the results will just scale down. Any reason that wouldn't be accurate?). These were the results without promoting our rifles at all, over 5 trials:
*Between 0 and 15 MGs died, seemed to average just under 10 killed. * Between 0 and 20 Rifles died, with the average being 10. * Between 30 and 45 Rifles were attacked, with the average being just above 35. My thoughts after seeing this: those losses would be if they literally sent everything in and had nothing left to defend the city with after. So we would capture the city. On the flip side, 15 Rifles would be a lot to lose. Your guys thoughts? After seeing this I could be more convinced not to promote, although a formation firle or two might be smart in case they decide to promote their curs to flanking -- so that we have a something get decent ods on that to not get knicked too hard.
I would still advocate no promotions at all. Rifles should get decent enough odds already to prevent any serious flanking damage. Even if he does strike out, it's just 4 cuirassiers, hardly game-changing.

![]() When we began this shindig back in August, I posted a clip of Aragorn's Speech at the Black Gate in our pre-game thread. Now, eight months later, we're on the flood plains south of the city of Beijing, staring at its black gates behind which lurk an enemy horde. I couldn't think of a more appropriate thing to post: Aragorn's Speech at the Black Gate Let's do this. ![]() |
