Would you have been able to turn things around if you knew about this culture plot say 2 turns earlier? Even though you managed to attack, you might still have not enough troops in that case...

It's 20% base + 10% for Medic I + 15% for Medic III for 45% total if there is a GG medic around. That's two or three hits of cannon collateral erased each turn. Could you have overcome that?
I just wanted to pop in and say that even if it does come to the bitter end next turn, you've played and reported a hell of a game.
Amelia Wrote:Would you have been able to turn things around if you knew about this culture plot say 2 turns earlier? Even though you managed to attack, you might still have not enough troops in that case... We began discussing that last night after we played the turn, and to be honest, we're not sure. What I was implying was we might have stood better odds if we started building an army earlier - I don't think we could have invaded any earlier than we did. I feel like if we had started our mobilization for the invasion a few turns earlier, we might have been able to stop the victory. However, Team #1's offensives against us precluded this, tying up our forces and production. If we had gone even earlier than we did, we would had simply lacked the units to get the job done. Railroad, and having sufficient machine guns to cover the stack, also constrained us. Moving in against Lewwyn's massed collateral without machine guns probably would have been suicide. Accelerating the plan already hurt us enough; if we had been able to go on the original date, we would have had 200+ units, including half again as many rifles. More rifles would probably have turned the tide, as they're our only unit getting really good odds on the defenders. Lastly, I'm not sure if we could have known and arrived at the conclusion that we needed to stop the Culture Victory any sooner than we did. Hindsight is 20/20 of course, but even looking back, I can't really see much else that we could have done - given what we knew at the time. At any rate, it may seem petty, but I'm going to largely blame Team #1 for our failure to stop the CV. We just don't have the capability to take Beijing with the sheer number of units in it by t191. If the Indian stack was not present, we would have been able to take the city next turn. I obviously cannot confirm it, but I feel positive Lewwyn would not have been able to field near as many units in Beijing if he had to defend Milkshake as well. We simply cannot get through the number of units he's fielding in time to stop the win. Team #1's fence-sitting, more than anything else, is what has handed Team #2 the win. Obviously, there is a good deal of speculation in that claim, so I'm not sure if it's accurate. I'll be able to see what really happened in due time. If you're still beelining for Cristo Redentor, you're nowhere near Fascism for Police State and Mount Rushmore. I've been considering that for the last few turns, and I'm pretty sure we would have still been in a strong position. We're all in HR, so we would have been able to tackle the unhappiness with MP garrisons. Not saying it wouldn't be rough, but we have enough military units lying around it wouldn't be too much trouble. Remind me to show the power graph one more time. Our power levels in comparison to Team #1 are utterly ridiculous. Bottomline: we'll have the military to spare to keep our cities happy. T-hawk Wrote:Does this account for healing by the defending units? It's 20% base + 10% for Medic I + 15% for Medic III for 45% total if there is a GG medic around. That's two or three hits of cannon collateral erased each turn. Could you have overcome that? Yes, of that I am absolutely sure. Three-quarters of our cannons survived the first round of the battle, along with a couple dozen pretty healthy rifles. We'll be able to kill another fiftyish units this turn, while still keeping the majority of our force intact. This will put us through the majority of Lewwyn's muskets/jannisaries, which are the only units really giving us trouble. Catapults and CKNs, which make up the majority of the remaining forces, just quail in the face of muskets and rifles. With the reinforcements we have inbound, we would be able to seize the city, no question. It's just longer than we needed it to be. Biggest question on my mind is what Team #1 has been thinking all this time. There is probably 36 hours left on the clock for this game, so not long to wait and find out. I'm looking forward to reading all the threads and getting the post-game analysis underway. In between studying for finals I've started organizing my post-game thoughts. However, before that, I will be getting a couple last turn reports in before it all ends. Been a wild ride, these last 74 turns.
Epic few weeks. Absolutely epic.

Regardless of what happens, it's been a very well-played game. Tip of the hat to you gentlemen (pun intended?). :hat:

So too would the happy wonders (Broadway, Rock and Roll) that we were soon to be building. I don't think the issue would have really been happiness, but it still would have been interesting given their tech advantage.
They're going legendary this turn (as in I just logged in game and Lewwyn has played 2 of their 3 turns and two cities went legendary). They've won. Damn this must have been exciting to lurk though. One, at most two turns later and we would have razed Beijing.
Also, amusingly, Sulla started a GA and team 1 finished the pentagon. That's where they put all their hammers? ![]() Can't wait to read all the spoiler threads. Speaker just logged in too and clearly saw the legendary status, haha. WK and Dave, it's been absolutely awesome playing with you guys.
Wow. Unreal.
In future Pitboss games, can we have a "T1 award" for the player/team most oblivious to the global situation? Edit: I'm going to go ahead and finally spoil myself. T-hawk Wrote:For editing, the premier free option is VirtualDub, at http://virtualdub.sourceforge.net/ . Do you think the entire 50 minutes is worth watching, or would you want to edit it down to some highlights? Thanks, I'll look into it. Most of the battle is probably worth watching. Once I've edited it (which may have to wait until the weekend), I'll probably send it to someone like you to upload it, if that's fine with you. No chance we'll take it of course, but we have a turn of doing whatever we want. Shoot the Moon Wrote:Can't wait to read all the spoiler threads.
