And now that I'm 100% research for the next few turns, here's my Demo's:
I'm at least almost average in my GNP, but I'm almost last in everything else. The only person I'm beating in power is Azza, and that is just not good. I actually just switched most of my cities over to military units and next turn I'll switch to Theocracy for 5 turns to get a few more experienced units out. Plus I just whipped that Galley, so I want to get two units onto it and send them to the island. I'll then send the galley back to get a settler and another unit.
After the 5-turn (or so) wait period, I'll switch back to Organized Religion so that I can get the Moai Statues finished as quickly as possible.
I'll have my Great Person in 3 turns now. I still have no clue what I'm going to do with it.
If it's a Spy, I'll settle him in PoD. If it's a Scientist, that's where I'm still not sure. Should I try to bulb something, or just make an Academy down in Dragon's Mouth? I don't even know what my options are if it's an Engineer, so it I actually get one of those I'll have to wait and see, I guess.

Don't forget about settling a GS... you could do some estimation to see how much would an academy give compared to settling.

Any idea the best way to estimate that? I never even really considered that, just assuming an Academy would be much better. I've always thought people always make an Academy first before thinking about settling the GS.
I already assume that if I were to settle, the best place would be in PoD since that city will apparently have my National Epic eventually.

Just check how many base beakers your city produces at break-even research and multiply by 50%.
I have to run.

What novice said above: %50 * your predicted break-even beakers. Since you are unlikely to found that many more cities, predicted rate is probably the actual rate. Also, keep in mind that settled GPs don't give GP points, so settling in National Epic city shouldn't be a factor.

Speaker the Lionhearted met Lewwyn this turn. I can only just see the edge of his borders, so next turn when I move onto a hill in his territory I'll post a screenshot for you guys. I'm interested in seeing what one of the other top Civs has been doing.
He's directly to the west of Azza, so it's actually possible that he could try to take advantage of his diminished capabilities and send some forces to take stuff before LP can.
The other Civ on the mainland over there that I've met long ago was Elkad, and from my recollection of the directions ASM was giving him when they tried to coordinate the attack on Team Googly, and seeing where Lewwyn is, I'm betting Elkad is somewhere directly to the south of Azza. So that means my westward path with Speaker is a good one for meeting new people.
The other nice thing about meeting Lewwyn, is that I think I should get some nice tech bonuses from him since he should already have most of the techs I'll be going for. Does anyone know the actual math of what kind of bonus each additional Civ with the tech you are researching gives?

With 18 teams it's not much. For each team that knows a tech you get an extra (30% / 18) bonus, so a 1.67% bonus. This is added to the 20% bonus from known optional prerequisite techs. So for example if you're researching a tech with two optional prerequisites, and you know one of the prerequisites and 12 of your opponents know the tech, a research output of 100 beakers would be converted to 100 * (1 + 0.2 (from prerequisites) + 0.3 * (12/18)) = 140 beakers into the tech.

And I assume the 18 is based on the settings of the game and doesn't care how many teams are actually left alive?

So here is Lewwyn's city near Azza. I'm half tempted to go north to see the upper corner, but it I look closely most of those tiles against the fog are up against water with the exception of the one north of the desert which I can see is a grassland. And from the way the borders and roads are, that's gotta be where Azza has planted a city. So I'm going to continue on through L's land to see what he has and continue my quest to meet the rest of the Civ's.
I switched to Theocracy this turn and will crank out a few more Archers, a couple Axes, and probably a coupler Spears. And once I get Construction I'll probably have each city with a barracks make me a Catapult. And then I'll switch back to Organized Religion again.
Next turn I get my Great Person!!!! I'm really hoping for a Great Scientist. Still haven't decided what I would do with one if I get him. Both Puddle of Doom and Dragon's Mouth each have good potential for an Academy. Maybe tomorrow I'll take a screenshot of both in closeup and you guys can help me decide.
