Leader / Civ selection

Okay assuming that this gets off the ground, and if there's a mod that it doesn't drive too many people away, we should probably start thinking about our civ and leader.

In case you haven't heard, we pick 7th out of 9 in a snake pick. The picks are currently scheduled to start on June 4th (i.e. tomorrow)

I believe nothing is banned at this point.

So while much of our deliberations will be affected by the 6 picks before us, I think we've got a good start.

We have columns down at the bottom of our google spreadsheet to rank traits, civs and leaders. Some folks have already put some thought in there

At some point either tonight or tomorrow we should categorize those choices and see what we're looking for.

5. Team Civfanatics - India
6. Team CivPlayers - Darius (Fin/Org)

I vote we take Pacal or Willem. If they're not available I vote to "consider what to pick when it's our turn" lol

I say keep it simple and take best available. Pacal, Willem, Sury, India, Inca, Mansa <--- Given that we are #7 in the pick order, I'm completely confident one of those will fall - somebody will take Justinian so they can role-play or something ridiculous like that.

I mean, we could go with something more unique and less boring too. Even a "mid-level" leader can be an elite one if you get the most out of them.

I agree with scooter and sunrise. I wouldn't be surprised if one of pacal willem or India isn't available (three best choices in my opinion).

I'd say India or Inca before Sury/Mansa, solely because of our pick location:
The drop-off between two leaders being chosen between our 1st pick and our 2nd is a lot smaller than the civ drop-off if one of India/Inca are still available. Basically, I'd rather go for Inca/Izzy than Sury/Maya or some other mid-tier civ.

So given that we're 7th in the order:
Pacal
Willem
Inca
India
Sury
Mansa
Izzy

I agree with the logic, although Inca over India? Care to explain/justify?

I would advise waiting to see what other teams ahead of us pick. Until that happens, discussion here is pretty pointless. We all know who the best civs and leaders are already from playing so many previous games.

I'm sure some newbies like the discussion, though smile

Fin is the best long term economic trait. Exp gets fast expansion through quick workers. Cre allows good territory control in the early game, where it matters most. Pick a leader with two of those.

Spiritual is the "backup trait". It gives a lot of reward if you're willing to micromanage civic selections.

Inca is good because it basically gives a free Creative trait. India is good because fast workers rock. Both should be paired with Expansive if possible.

I think you'll find that there are probably some pretty significantly varying opinions on the power of the various traits now 40+ games in.
