Leader / Civ selection

Personally think Bismarck is just as good or better than Isabella. Not sure how many people around here have to either win or place well in games with IND before we stop with the conventional RB wisdom that its not a great trait, but there have been quite a few.

I'm sure we'll be able to get something strong and Fin-ish, but I wouldn't be fussed at all if we got one of the other strong EXP leaders.

Man, there you go reading minds again Gaspar. I was just about to post the praises of Bismark. Cheap granaries and forges, hurray.

Industrious is a lot stronger in a 4-5 player PBEM than a lot of people give it credit for; however, it gets proportionally weaker the more players there are in a game. For a nine team PB, I would say it's only a mediocre trait, with the caveat that ymmv depending on how many other teams take Industrious leaders.

In summary, while Bismarck is a strong leader, I feel like there will probably be stronger options still on the table by the time we make our pick.

I think a betting pool/mini-game on what the first six picks will be is a way better idea than trying to plan our seventh pick now smile

I've added some rows in the spreadsheet (and cleaned it up a bit). Winner is the person who guesses the largest number of picked leaders and civs. I'm using box quinella rules, so order doesn't matter except to break ties.

Alright! I filled in my guesses. But...Are we allowed to change them?

Act honorably. Change the picks if you change your minds, but not to game the system based on others' votes. You can still vote after the first team picks, just give your five remaining picks and play with a handicap. If the first pick was one of your picks that spot gets locked but you can change the other spots.

Then I reserve the right to change them after I've given it more thought...I tend to do these things rushed and quickly. (Basically I draft which I then finalize).

Coming late here, but here's my 2 öre:

I think India is the top pick among civs, simply because the Fast Worker gives benefits throughout the game, and fits the strong MM skills here. Ie, it synergizes not so much with a leader as it does with our team skills.

As for traits, I think I'd value FIN and SPI the highest, EXP and IND makes good backups. In a way, we can take advantage of coming late in the pick order. If there is no other IND leader when we get to pick (and most other leaders have been picked), then I think we can go with Huayna or Ramesses, otherwise we can pick some non-IND leader.

Two more thoughts:

How about France as a possible Civ? A high-mobility UU with excellent starting techs.

If we are to take on a challenge, what about taking an MP culture victory into consideration? I think Mansa, Gandhi, or Ramesses would be the leaders to pick there. SPI for cheap temples, and using mainly artists for culture with Gandhi (more Great Artists) and Ramesses (Rep-boosted). That would also go well with France's UB. I'm not saying we should do it, but it might be something to be ready and prepared for.

Cool, thanks for that.

So just to clarify, it doesn't matter if a particular civ/leader is picked 1st or 6th... we still get the point if we had it on our list somewhere?

Yep. I want to reward people for predicting what the consensus feels is strong, not which team will favor which specific combination. The latter has a lot more luck involved anyways.

Order only matters for ties.
