I have beaten "The Box". Only took me six months and about 500 to 1000 attempts. lol

I went on to clear three more boards, of an easier variety, before getting stuck in the expected place, at The Palace.

'Tis sitting here on my desk, awaiting the passing of Thanksgiving Day, among other things. Then I have a three-day weekend set aside for it. There's a certain symmetry to that timing. I set my first solo coin-op world record on the Friday after Thanksgiving in 1983. My first championship at the Invitational Descent Ladder ran the week of Thansgiving in 1997. A lot of big games release just in time to hit store shelves before Thanksgiving, for the big Christmas push.

I played some Mahjong puzzles tonight because I only had an hour available. If you have any loose ends to tie up with me, now's a good time. I may not come up for air once I take the plunge. [Image: smile.gif]

Well, I am going to have to wait for HL2, I'm afraid. Until Christmas, anyway. I know I'll be getting two games, and that's one of them. I suspect the other is WH40K Dawn of War. So no spoilers! smile

1983! That's a lifetime ago... literally. I was born that year!

I know my friends who have hl2 are really enjoying it at the moment, so you may be right about you not surfacing for quite a while smile.

Oh and before I forget, to all you Americans out there, happy thanksgiving for whenever it is (not up to date on my US public holidays).

Started installation at 2:50 PM EST. Over an hour to install! eek Started the game at 4PM. 8AM, my father comes over for a visit, asks, "Have you been to sleep?" Stupid question. He already knows the answer. lol

Um... Made it to where the second weapon for Slot 3 comes into play. Playing on Normal and finding that plenty challenging enough, actually. These monsters are a wee bit tougher than the original, I'd say. (I ran through the first game on Hard right out of the gate).

Whoa. When did the sun come up? For that matter, when did it go down? crazyeye

Have you tried the DoW demo, then? I can't really compare, since the only other RTS I ever tried was the first WarCraft (Empire doesn't count because it's turn-based) but I love the way they worked in the atmosphere of the game.

Two non-spoiler comments about the full version vs. the demo. Obviously there are more races in the full version, but there are also more pieces in the soundtrack. Yeah, that should be obvious, too, but one or two of them aren't martial, but soothing, almost medatative. It's weird, but it works.

My one nit with the full game is that, in the tutorial, whenever you complete a learning objectives they added a success sound, very similar to the Windows "Ta Da!" sound. I think it detracts from things especially since the game has so many auditory cues already, and for me it muddies things up to hear the "tada" on top of a marine squad reporting "Objective secured".

But that's minor, and it's not like I'm going to play the tutorial over and over. If I compare it to Myth: The Fallen Lords, where the demo provided great atmosphere, but the full game had all these silly cartoon cut scenes, well, there's no comparison. smile
