Hi,

cool, that's my preferred type of Potluck! I will definitely play this.

It's probably too late for this, but what about a "can't declare war before year X" rule? I still think ultra-early aggression is one of the biggest balance problems with CIV, especially with non-aggressive AIs.

Two things ...

1) isn't this "Your desired starting leader and civilization" a little bit redundant given that you cannot mix leaders and civs? wink
2) what happens if I select Isabella and Isabella is one of the other leaders ... does that mean that there will be two Isabella's?
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Well I am going to play. Now I need to figure out who. Who is tough as different leaders favor different wins.

Quote:*DO NOT* discuss your choice of starting leader/civ with other players until the Epic closes!

I think we will need a more specfic don't talk about the *potential* civ rule. Saying that the ####### civ will rule for a space race IMHO breaks the above rule, but someone may still do it.

Maybe the Unrestricted Leaders option is selected?

Edit: Uh...never mind I just read the rules page and it is clear Unrestricted Leaders is not selected (at least not for the player).

I'll bring a dish to the party. Probably looking for a guaranteed tie for fastest time victory. Now which civ will be best for that....

(yes, that's a bad joke, not a bad spoiler.)

Glad to see we've got some interest going. Some quick responses:

I gave some thought to this Kylearan, but ultimately I decided to leave things open for this game. (I don't think it would be fair for those shooting for the fastest Conquest victory to be unallowed to declare war before a certain date.) If it turns out to be a problem when we compare results after the game closes, we can always implement this kind of rule in the future. I'm actually looking forward to getting some more good data about Beyond the Sword from this event. smile

1) Yes, it's redundant, but I wrote the description that way for sake of clarity. (If I just said "your choice of leader", I think it would be more confusing.)
2) Yes, there would be two Isabellas in that situation. Civ4 can handle duplicate leaders with no problem. I've known this ever since we ran a game in testing with 18 Washingtons, just to prove it was possible. lol

Just to restate to avoid confusion: Unrestricted Leaders is NOT selected. You have your choice of any of the default leader/civ pairings.

If I don't respond immediately to your emails/PMs, don't worry about it. I'm traveling overseas right now with limited Internet access. I will definitely get your information, and send everything out to you next week when I get back. nod

Could I also suggest a subdivision of the diplomatic victory results into two separate categories for AP & UN. Achieving each of them would likely require different emphases throughout the game, different approaches from the start and thus different leaders....
