Almost perfect Qwack!!!
Your PBEM description is perfect!!
However, your pitboss description could use a slight tweak.....
Pitboss however is run on a dedicated server where players can play their turns in one of two pre-agreed ways.
1. Simultaneously, and if you don't play your turn in the designated amount of time (usually like 24 hours), then the turn will proceed to the next one. Any queued items (techs, builds, moves etc) will get processed, however if you don't have things in a que then nothing gets done.....
2. Sequential, much the same theory as PBEM except the save isn't physically passed form one team to another. This makes the pitboss server act only as an enforcer of whatever turn limit is agreed upon. Turn order is maintained. If you don't play your turn in the designated amount of time (usually like 24 hours), then the turn will proceed to the next team. Any queued items (techs, builds, moves etc) will get processed, however if you don't have things in a que then nothing gets done.....
Please note that the AI doesn't actually 'play' your turn if you miss it, the computer merely processes any pre-defined orders you may have planned.
I hope this clarifies things somewhat.......

So a Democracy/Pitboss game is all the team meeting at a designated time to discuss each turn, presumably with one team member driving?

Darrell With a heavy RPG element. The hook of the demogame seems to be the players setting up a mock nation, and even going so far as to discuss the ideals and principles it will be based on. I don't know how much of that occurs in practice, but at least such thinks were advertised in the demogame info threads at Civfanatics.

Discussion of turns can be carried out via posts in the team private forum, email, or indeed via chat software (Skype/MSN/Irc etc), or all three is they so wish....

The level of roleplaying can vary from none, with discussion being carried out in a purely strategic level, to total, with people being assigned a role and sticking to that role for the duration of the game, or anything inbetween.......
The crux of the team game is that you don't always get to do the things in the way that you, individually, may think is the best. You personally may think that tech A is the best tech to research next, while the majority of your team members may think that tech B is more appropriate. This scenario can translate to the many various decisions that occur in a typical game of Civ. If you do roleplay, and you happen to be the Minister of Science at that time, then your view may hold more weight than the Minister of Trade.......

Hi,

From my experience with the CIV multi-team demogame I can say that different teams adopt different nation styles. Our team has a democracy, with a constitution and (at least in the beginning, when we were enough players) regular elections for the different administrative roles. Other teams are proud to be anarchists, etc. In fact, players joined specific teams because of their ruling style.
The CFC MTDG is PBEM, and discussions are done in private sub-forums. Even in the beginning, when turnaround times were quick, that was sufficient. Every player can look at the save, and our turnplayer (Memphus at the moment) makes a great job at posting screenshots, updates etc. for those who can't or don't want to open the save.
I know I won't participate if team coordination will go via chat; I need to choose my time when to look for new posts and/or contribute to the discussion.

Many of the posters in this thread however are rather active SG players, and without the roleplaying aspect, a demogame would just be a competitive SG game, or really a SGOTM with other teams playing in the same world as us.

If Realms Beyond enter their own team then you can set whatever agenda suits you. If you join another team then you may want to inquire about their communication style before deciding who to join.

If you guys want to enter a team and play it as a SG then that's your call. You could play X turns then hand over to the next ruler, or X days of realtime and then hand over to the next ruler, or whatever suits you. What you do in your private forum is entirely up to you........

That pretty much sums me up. Between work and kids my CIV schedule is completely random. I'd like to participate in a competitive RB team for pride's sake if nothing else, but I can't commit to anything with a real time requirement.
