I didn't realize it was possible to have floodplains on non-river tiles, or non-desert tiles for that matter .
Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you.

Yeah, I didn't either which is why it's screwy. Maybe it's going to be the same for everyone else cause I had no idea.

seems like something you'd see in the RFC-random mod. Every time I play that there is goofy stuff like corn or what on plains hills, jungle right next to desert, etc.

Yeah, there are map scripts that ignore the normal rules (fantasy or whatever that is called comes to mind off the top of my head). I guess I should have been more clear: for normal map scripts floodplains only occurs on desert. In terms of how civ maps work, floodplains is something that can be added on to a base tile, just like forest or jungle can be. Floodplains provides +3 food and what one-third unhealthiness? On a normal map script it only ever appears on desert tiles that border a river, but the base game itself has no problem with it being elsewhere.
Either way works nicely for me to recover quickly from the warrior rush. Unless there are similar floodplains elsewhere, I feel pretty certain my second city is far and away the best, especially in terms of getting up and running quickly, which is the most important trait of a second city

The new city of La Donor (had to change the name actually as the original name was too long for civ).
And after ending the most recent turn, its borders popped:

So this turn I found Sian's (IMP/ORG of the Vikings) borders:
Looking more fully at the map, it looks like the three of us on our continent are more or less arranged in a triangle. I've seen some symmetrical land between my NW and E (desert hill, desert incense) and the jungle area also looks like it is mirrored three times over. Here's what I've so far revealed:
Anyhow, Sian C&D stuff:
His capital is currently size 5, his second city is currently size 2. I guess it makes sense that he grew the capital quickly seeing as his starting techs sucked so hard.
He's not in slavery (which again makes sense when you start with fishing/hunting).
Time for me to go read up on some of Sian's previous threads to get a sense of him as a player. Do any of you lurkers have any suggestions of a representative game he played in?
I must say though, certainly happy at the moment with my continent pairing. Avoiding mackoti and Kyan is certainly nice.

Not much going on this turn. I moved my warrior 1N. Next turn I'll probably move 1NE, declare war with that, and then immediately offer peace. I trust Sian can understand that as me saying I'm just scouting his city, not that I actually have any hostile intent.
Other than that not much else happened. A worker completed in the capital, which moves onto a granary. Second city obviously grew to size 2, and will grow to size 3 after next turn.
Any screenshots you guys want to see next turn or any info you want? Turns are pretty quiet at this point.

Sian played (won) the 29g game. He did not update a whole lot, IIRC. Generally, in that one he had IND/ORG on a toroid/islands map, built GLH (one turn ahead of us among many other wonders) and made good use of failgold to power his economy to a tech lead, then boated post-astronomy with grenadiers for a concession. I think he played solidly in that one. Other games, I think he's pretty much been invaded by everyone on the site and has learned to play some dogged defense, but others can fill in the gaps on that a bit better I'm sure.

Having looked through most of his threads yesterday, that was the main thing I found out. Other than that it seems as if he is sort of a mackoti wonder-whore disciple more than a REX + cottage spam type. That being said, with us banning Mids and GLH, that is decidedly less of a worry. Seems like he is a probably a decent player, if probably not spectacular (sort of hard to tell really as he rarely updates and has most often played in green or intermediate player games).
