Newbie EitB Game?

HidingKneel Wrote:I don't know if it's possible to set up to play Mercurians from the start, but it certainly isn't advisable, since they would start the game unable to build any military. (Unless they started with their usual retinue, in which case they could instantly kill everybody else with Basium.)

If you're worried about getting rushed, you could pick the Elohim, who get their worldspell as a safety net.

Well, i thought abit, and I would play Mercurials, Kuriotate or Calabim.
I played a vs AI game as mercurians (It was on RifE though), and I did not have too much trouble, even though the only thing I started with was 1 angel. Maybe it was because I only had to contest with barbs, while everyone else was on another continent >_<

ahhhh ... so you mean that we cannot "get it for free" with a Tower/Building/ etc.

Would the same apply to Great Sage pops?

Either way, I could dig having to manually research the SotW. Makes sense at least.

Sages only give ~1500 beakers right? If that's right, I see no reason to ban Sage rushing - if someone saves 5 sages for a one turn SoW I say they deserve to be able to build tower.

HidingKneel Wrote:I've got no problem with removing Tower as a victory condition. I'd prefer this to limiting the number of nodes, or placing restrictions on how
the Tower of Divination / Grimoire can be used.
The only issue is encouraging civs to win by conquest in a roleplaying game doesn't really make sense.

Maybe put it to vote.

However, I would like to request to play either Mercurial (from the start, if possible) or Kuriotates.

I'll put you down as Kuriotates/Calabim.

Claim your civs people (superjm, Yell0w, Instinct)! Any last minute interested people speak up! Make a decision Taskune! :neenernee

Oh, as all this barb stuff is starting to weigh the thread down, I'll just set Clan as straight up banned unless anyone has any objections. Saves time unless someone is dead set on being the Clan, in which case that'll just have to be reversed.

On second thought, I think I will just lurk this game.

heh, and here I was leaning towards Jonas tongue

Well, if clan is banned, guess I'll give Cassiel a spin.

Cool. Ok, in order to speed things up, I'll set things to Prince, Quick and Pangaea medium. If someone has anything against these speak up (especially as I don't really know the consequences of each difficulty/speed in multiplayer).

Edit: The other thing is to set up a turn order, which depends on timezone and availability. I'm free ~5pm BST each day.

I had considered the Ljo but I noticed Amelanchier lost defensive.

Horribly busy weekend, County Fair, heat in the 90+ and gf birthday today, picnic my American Legion post tomorrow.

duh Ugh more I think about it, more I think I should withdraw.

Hey Instinct, just become my teammate wink

I'll probably need one anyways (I have a bad track record of not always being available for turns)

So I guess I'm globally lurking then? Or does somebody still need a dedlurker?
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

I suppose I could use a dedlurker. Possibly a dedlurker that wouldn't mind sharing the turn load? smile
