Diplomacy Master Thread- Helping Your Opponents Beat Themselves

I vote scooter for voice. We will also need someone to monitor the whole diplomacy situation so scooter can focus on being the voice.

So I would support a war / peace declaration. I'd even be fine with saying something along the lines of "Look, our capital is currently empty. We have a warrior 2t away that can beat your warrior back to the capital but we'd rather not do that". If these guys really want to be our friend then this shouldn't be a problem.

I vote against using the fake war thing because it can be easily misinterpreted, and can be rules lawyered as breaching the NAP.

Don't over think it.

I agree. It's a logical idea in an RB game, but these guys offered us a 70 turn NAP upon first contact and insisted that all espionage missions are balanced, so I think we need to temper our natural assumptions. Let's not get too cute here.

Bringing up the possibility of them attacking us immediately after signing a NAP with them strikes me as being appalling diplomacy. If we don't trust them to uphold their end of the NAP, why'd we even sign it?

As a general rule, making no comment on various team's skills we should expect metagame behavior consistent with the first 2 pitbosses and first 10 PBEMs from the other teams, simply due to how much the RB Metagame has evolved differently. A lot of the cute tricks we do now would be appalling in such a setup. So yeah, we signed a 70t NAP with these guys, let's pretend we trust them for a little bit and then go kill them later with all of our units named after famous lawyers. :oldwink:
I've got some dirt on my shoulder, can you brush it off for me?

I wonder if their NAP offer was genuine. I think they probably expected us to refuse and were fishing for a counter-offer.
I have to run.

Another thought ... a different CFC team member comes back and says 'sorry - no NAP, Caledorn was not authorized to offer the NAP in the first place'. I suggest that we play the next turn slowly to give this possibility a chance to shake out.

They probably aren't spending that much thought on it. They probably just went 'Oh crap, its RB/Egypt. Sommers was a dick to them and we are their neighbors. We should get an NAP with them ASAP so they don't attack us with chariots because we are running a farmer's gambit.'
