Oh I completely understand the necessity of the diplo style our team is doing. It just goes without saying that I'm not the right person for the job. Example:
Empathy: Does not compute.
Sympathy: Does not care.
I did join TEAM for a reason I think I need a new signature....

Got a response:
CFC Wrote:Hi scooter/RB,
Thanks for your response. We've had a chat and we respect that you don't want to commit 100% to a border agreement before you've seen the land for yourself. We're in agreement not to settle aggressively - for us that means neither team settling past the oasis. Let's revisit the specifics when you've had the chance to explore more.
We would really like working with your team too, so we look forward to hearing from you when you've had a look around. Good luck with your scouting endeavors!
Positive response, so far so good on this front.

They are surprisingly serious. Wonder if they are doing a Parkin 60/40 split. We should really get something to keep tabs on this area (and prevent annoying barbs) ASAP.

I'm less interested in the actual area of the oasis, and more interested in the greater area about of the oasis. It's one thing to equally split the land 50/50, it's another to have land of equal value.

I highly doubt that CFC lied about the oasis being in the middle and the position of their capital. After all they had no guarantee that we would not have map info on that region already. Going into a first contact negotiation with a blatant lie, that can easily be revealed, is highly unlikely.

I don't doubt that the oasis is as they say they are, but I just don't want an agreement that gives them 20 tiles of floodplains and us 20 tiles of desert.

I don't sense any deception at all in their messages. My best guess is they're being completely honest with us and genuinely want an ally. This is nice for us. It might seems odd, but I actually do think it makes some degree of sense for them strategically. They've estimated us to be one of the stronger teams, but I don't think they view us as unbeatable by any stretch. They figure they'd rather get a working relationship with their strong neighbor while they outpace the Boudicas of this world. Really, it's not that different from how we've been wanting to approach them. Out of all the teams, I do think they're probably one of the bigger threats to win. If you view them as having the same opinion on us, their actions mostly make sense despite how unorthodox the "hey I just met you and this is crazy, we're the Indians, 100T NAP maybe?" approach is.
Either way, breathing room and a safe border is ideal for us as it lets us quietly play in our sandbox which is our primary strength.

So I'd like to send a response, even if it's mostly nothing just to acknowledge and to continue to try to ease their minds. It did take them a few days to decide on that message, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's some mild apprehension over there in CFC land. After all, we've been apprehensive here (and a bit paranoid really), so I see no reason why things aren't similar for them. Here's a try:
CFC Draft Wrote:CFC,
Thanks, glad to hear this is okay. We would really like it if we can agree on land between us so that it frees both of us up to settle further elsewhere, resulting in extra land for both of us. Don't hesitate to send us a message any time if you have further questions/comments. We'll do our best to respond as timely as possible .

Perhaps offer to help them get their scout off to boldly go where no pixels has gone before?

This is a good idea. Another thought - we should definitely propose that we agree to let each other know if/when we make contact with people. If their scout is still alive, this may likely benefit us more than them anyway.
