Pre-game tests were showing that imho the best for this kind of start is:
765pts
3 cities = 447
1 settler = 149 (for better position)
1 worker = 90 (can't do lots, but mine the gold and camp the ivory)
3 scouts = 66 (for poping a max of huts)
----
752
rest = 13 could possibly buy 2 visibility
2cities/2settlers would be better (don't have to choose blindly) but you need 1 city for every 2 units so not possible.
I like river a lot, so i gamble a little bit with cities (but still choosing a place where they will be able to work an unused food ressource :
1. Aksum on the center square
2. Gondar on the Eastern river, with Sheep, with lots of hills for military purpose (missed sea by 1tile, but it turn out to be a quite good city for production purpose)
3. Lalibela on the northern river, with corn and ivory, finally quite well positionned (cottages on all the river-grassland planned).
1scout in each city, 1worker in Aksum (can only mine/camp), 1 settlers in Lalibela.
(got some useless 'too late' maps, from auto popping the hut).
Already losing 4gpt right now.
Start
-----------------
Research Agri, archery(3600), animal (3300), Wheel (3100), fish(2975), pot(2825), BW (2575), Writing (2300), Sailing (2100), alpha (1725), IW (1500), currency (1150), CoL (925), Medi().., Mc(575), Calendar (410), CS (215), Aeste (110), Litte ()
Start a few warriors/barracks (to size2/3) before going for some extra workers.
T1 hinduism !! (never happens in my tests
)
Scouts will get from huts : gold, scout, map, agriculture (while at already at T7/9!). Clearly not as good as I was hoping for
T5 Already meet asoka (stealing me a hut) and Monte (hindu founder)
T6 Already some wolfs around, time to stop scouting with the settler (he has discovered some very decent place west but is hoping for better).
3675BC (t13) Addis founded as the initial settler would be in danger (but the place is ok - blue circle, will turn to have Iron later)
3050BC Meet the 1st barb archer in the outside, need to beef our defence (1 archer in prod only, a barely 1 warrior doing MP)
2625 First city founded by a built settler (Yeha - by the gold)
2575 Bw, revolt to Slavery
2200 Meet Peter scout
1850 Meet Louis (I have a chariot scouting far away)
1725AD
Get Alphabet quite late BUT the Ais are soooo backward and pathetic, that is not even funny
Monte is getting annying ,settling anywhere in 'my lands': I surprise a settler with archer in the open while going to chase barbarians with a group of 4x chariot --> declare
Our army is almost exclusively charriot, but strangely Monte army is rubish, mainly archer and a token chariot every now and again. We are in no position to keep Monte (badly placed) cities and end up razing every thing including Holy city.
1525BC - Attack of tlaxcala - raze for the cost of only 1 charriot.
1275BC - attack of Teotihuacan (holy) - raze for the price of 1 chariot.
1225Bc
Monte in a stupid move attack with 1 of his 2 archers defending his capital,
next turn he still manages to whip a chariot, but the harm was done, Monte capital razed as well (get a GG)
1125BC
Raze Monte city next to the gems at the cost of 3 chariots, leaving him with just 1 for now. Peace as we have already moderate WW and no more army, and we will finish him later (edit : in fact in 2000 years!!).
925BC
Raze the barbarian city I was initially going to before declaring on Monte, build a better city (to be the FP later)
barbarians uprising somewhere. (Peter loses a city a bit later, and Asoka recapture it)
10AD
Found an extra city just in time.
Capture a barbarian city
Post mortem of partI
Scoring:
I should have spammed more cities, positive between 30% and 40%.
I did spend a while around 10%-20%, but stop building settlers a bit too violently to build courthouse, then forge while there was still a lot of good potentiel in ex-Zulu.
Research
the research progression was so slow, I did almost no trade with the AI, it really was not feeling like Emporer level at all. (and it won't be better in the second part)
Building
No Wonders for me in the 1st part, it was settler, archer, charriot (with granary, courthouse, forge)
