Important note: Halfway between our capitals favors the trolls. Remember, we moved our capital away from them.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.
1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.
2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.
3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.
4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Yep, agreed. Not sure what we can do about it though. Should we tell them they can't settle there if they want a NAP with us?
We've done a bit more dot-mapping and our northern city will need to be 3w1s of your copper mine. If you can live with that you have a deal. May we both REX in peace...
Now that that's all out of the way we have a few questions:
- At some point it would be good to get trade routes with you - right now I don't think we can, but when it's possible would you be interested in opening borders?
- Do you have an inkling of M3's intentions in settling around the Marble?
- Can you give us a warning when you plan to settle the ivory? We need to settle ours before or soon after to make sure the city doesn't get swamped in your culture.
Concerning your further questions I'll discuss with the team, but personally I'm ok with opening trade routes without right of passage and warning you few turns beforehand. It would be good, if you would do the same.
We don't know about M3's plans concerning marble site. However it seems to be positioned between us behind the lake so it probably would be a quite a reach for them to settle.

Hi,
Our team agrees to open borders for trade routes. (I.e., no right of passage.) A connection by road seems like the best solution; for example, if you make a road on your side of the border that connects to the deer tile, we can hook up there.
We'll let you know when we're ready to settle ivory city. It won't be within next 10 turns.
Just settled BoS with M3's axe on the city tile. Is it too early to send them a get orf moi laaaaand email something like this?
Quote:Hi Menagarie-Trois,
I'm sure you've seen our lovely new city Blades of Steel. We'd be grateful if you'd move your axe north out of our lands as soon as possible in accordance with the no-scouting clause in our agreement.
Mean time Plako caught me for a chat and I tried to coffee-house him:
Quote:Plako: You were on team Gillette? Old Harry: Yep, still am. How are your new pyramids? Plako: They are fine thank you. Not much competiton there probably. Financials should have other priorities
Our scout found your settling party. I guess he bounced somewhere far away. (Haven't checked yet)
Should have asked for OB Old Harry: Oh yeah, forgot about that - he's stuck between our new cities borders and some older borders.
We were going to need to open borders for trade soon anyway
so if you want to offer it in game we'll accept. Old Harry: Can you move the scout 9,9,8 - that way you're out of our territory soonest and without viewing any of our more important cities. Plako: sry got interrupted. Yeah OB is ok and I suspect 9-9-8 is also even if I don't know what that menas at the moment Old Harry: Have you still got much interest in your forum? Plako: There aren't lot of messages, but when something happens we've ~4-5 people still commenting
You? Old Harry: We'd be happy with moving the scout 6,9,8,8 if you'd rather, but it's quicker the other way...
yeah, we've got 3 or 4 still involved.
It sounded like TEAM was just Lewwyn for a while, but I think I've seen someone else logged in recently. Plako: Q Old Harry: Yeah, is that Qgqqqqqqqqqqqqqqqq? Plako: yes Old Harry: And I think the Pirates and M3 turn players are noobs like me, so looks like its just TEAM you need to fight really! Plako: I did see Mackoti logging in few turns ago Old Harry: I think it was a flying visit. Would love to have him back permanently!
Not sure where he went... Plako: PBEM47 Old Harry: Ah! I haven't been paying attention... I'll see if I can lure him back here then. Promise him that the game has sped up a bit!
<snipped inconsequential chat about how Gaspar is in trouble in that game.>
I didn't realize we bounced to your east so I decided to continue that way so that we see coast there. I'll continue towards north after this so I'll be just 1 turn in your territory.
Not good - they got visibility on Blade Runner. Not much we can do about it. I acknowledged receipt.

They moved along the road towards BoS, so I'm going to send this. Hopefully they get it before they are up:

We'd be grateful if you'd move Coyote the axe north out of our lands as soon as possible in accordance with the no-scouting clause in our agreement. I'm sure you don't want us to close borders given the bonus the Great Lighthouse is giving you on trade with us.
