Imperium Twelve: Results

It appears as though I'm the only one who reported a non-winning game. Well, sucks to be me:

Overall, it sounded as though most people enjoyed the premise of this game. Would you like to see similar, "no researching techs from ___ field" challenges in future Imperia? I have a hankering to try a "no Weapons tech" game down the road at some point if there's sufficient community interest. smile

No weapons? That would be really freaking tough, because it wouldn't take that long before the AI researches shields that make our starting weapons useless, and then we'd have to...

Huh. We'd have to rely on stuff like death spores, pulsars and black hole generator to deal damage in the late game. Or sabotage (although that would be really unreliable and too dependent on luck). Actually, having a bunch of ships flying around using nothing but special systems could be really interesting. I could actually go for that.

Except that I hate not being able to send ground invasions.

I definitely DO Like the sound of it.

Even thou this was one of the FEW hard games I won, it was surprisingly fun to say the least, and would go for something similar.

Certainly sounds interesting. Question is who for no Weapons since the Meklar were the perfect choice for no Planetology tech. Perhaps Humans and maybe a small map. Whatever the setup, I am sure it will be worth playing.

Sulla: I did not notice till you posted results that I messed up some of the dates in my report. Conclusion was 2469 (not 2669).

For no weapons, we'll be playing on Simple or Easy, right? lol Seriously though, it does sound hard. I am also thinking the Humans might be the best race, along WITH a good selection among the four planetary shield techs. If you do playtesting and get bowled over, maybe a fallback could be "only missiles, and only for missile bases"?

In general, "No _ tech" sounds interesting, if challenging. Computers isn't that "sexy" of a field (except for the Meklar? whip ; do Meklars smoke smoke ? wink ), but RCs and somewhat decent BCs are important items; no RCs, on a difficulty less than Impossible, could be interesting. No construction might be doable, though ship space would suffer. No FF I could see--I usually only get low-level items there anyway and still sometimes think I could have gotten by with less. In propulsion, decent range tech and probably at least warp 3 are important for my sanity, maybe others too. crazyeye

Well, I also reported a diplomatic loss in the impossible version, so you're not alone if you want to list that one.

Here's a crazy idea... combine this with a potluck! Can you select race in Oreo or some other editor? The idea would be to gather 6 races, one Poor in each discipline. Then, everybody could select (or get assigned at random) a race, and the additional rule is that they cannot research their Poor tech field. I don't know if this is feasible with the MOO editors out there, but I imagine it would be a helluva good time, and make for VERY interesting reports.

That being said, I think the No-Weapons variant is doomed without help. Player simply won't be able to keep the AI out of his territory once all of the available planets are gobbled up. Even if relations are good, the AI will randomly attack once it can't expand peacefully. The only way I can see this working is if you mod the AI to not have death spores, and guarantee Player Planetary shields. That can be done in Oreo.

Oh no, Potluck is a separate event. I'm confident that it can be done with the MOO editors, and it's something that will definitely roll around in time. smile

That sounds like a challenge! tongue Well, well, we shall see. Now I'm definitely going to make this come up in a month or two - if only to prove you wrong.

No weapons?

Well, I can´t remember is the Ion Stream Projector in the weapon tree?

Because if not, the variant is not that tough.tongue

The Ion Stream Projector is indeed in the weapons tree. But Pulsars and Black Hole Generator are not.
