Welcome!

This is my first game report ever... Here it goes!

First, I decided to figure out what impact would Dan Quale's traits have on the gameplay. Our leader gives us:

* -1 health
* -1 happyness
* -50% GP birth rate
* bank +35% gold instead of 50%
* worker 1 movement instead of 2
* double cottage evolution time

From those I got the following conclusions:

* economy will be a little crippled
* to fight it, we need a compact empire, so domination is not a good idea
* culture victory means chasing the religions, which means slower expansion - and that plays nicely with the compact imperium plan

I made my mind to go for culture, and will try to get both hinduism and judaizm. In the teaser screenshot we can see wines, and since happyness is not Quales strong side it would be nice to hook them up as soon as possible. Might be worth to do Oracle to Monarchy slingshot, for both wines and garrisons. Heck, I even might get the Great Prophet from the Oracle and lightbulb Theology to get the third religion! Um, that is if I can fight the -50% GP birth rate somehow. Maybe it would be possible to get both the Oracle and the Parthenon?

Let's find out...

I found the capital on the spot (believing that there has to be another food resource in the fat cross) and moved the warrior on the hut which gave me some gold. Decided to go for worker first, since Dan already knows agriculture, and the revealed wheat will be in range before the worker completes. Researchwise I go for mysticism->polytheism. The cows will have to wait a little, grabbing a religion is now a priority. In the mean time buddhism has been founded in a distant land 3525 BC. Few more turns and... yay, I've got the hinduism in 3300 BC. smile

Now its the time to get my worker something to do, so animal husbandry and the wheel will be next. In the mean time I met Stalin's scouting party and lost my combat 1 warrior on a hill to a lion at 9% odds frown

Next I have a pleasure of meeting my direct neighbours - Hammurabi and Gilgamesh. Actually the plaeasure was not mutual with Gilgamesh, as he already hates me! eek

When my scouting warriors encountered the southern coastline, I began to suspect that the whole eastern land is a one large peninsula. Currently I am following masonry->monotheism path, hoping to grab a second religion.

Unfortunately in 1950 BC my blood started to boil, as someone has discovered Judaism just ONE turn before me! :mad:

Ok, the hin-jewism plan failed miserably, but at least I completed the Oracle and took free monarchy for happiness and commercy boost from the wines.

Next, I started generating settlers to seal off the peninsula for myself. I reasoned, that it would be enough land to settle 9 cities and cruise to peaceful cultural victory. I managed to stop Gilgamesh and Hammurabi from entering the peninsula, but my border cities where having a difficult time fighting cultural war for their land. To fix this, I ordered building of temples and libraries. I wanted to improve my pathetic military situation (few warriors and few chariots) right after theese moves.

It turned out that "right after theese moves" was not soon enough. I was caught with my pants down. In the moment Gilgamesh declared on me I have already lost Boston! The Summerian Cry was rolling over me with a stack of vultures...

Ok, so I lost a city. What's the big deal? I can whip some chariots, which have +100% strength against axemen, and vultures are more or less axemen right? right? Well... Wrong. An axemen is an axemen and a vulture is a vulture... smoke

[Image: attachment.php?attachmentid=769&stc=1]

And I learned it the hard way.

[Image: attachment.php?attachmentid=770&stc=1]

So much for my first epic... I got conquered in 245 BC. eek

And Dan Quale got what he deserves after all lol

Hope you enjoyed that one. This was my second bts game (played vanilla and warlods before) and it introduced me to the Summerian unique units quite thoroughly. Another thing which caught me was the epic speed of the game (never tried this before), this made whipping out defense from nothing resonably harder.

Nice, it takes courage to play out and post a loss.smile

More luck next time.

Thanks for posting. Good report. And good thoughts re game plan. Were you attacking with the chariots? Attacking chariots get +100% v axe. They get nothing on defense (IIRC).
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Wow, that's bad news...just to make you feel better I would have thought Chariots could crush Vultures as well, and I've probably played 300 games wink. Aggressive AI was kind of a hint...one way to overcome the handicaps was to capture land, especially land with cottages already built. Cultural was going to be pretty tough with this setup!

Thanks for reporting and playing though; there is still an off chance someone else will lay a goose egg and take the record of "least attended Epic"!

Didn't know that, but yes I tried atacking too. Vultures are pretty good, but resistance to chariots makes them unstoppable! It inspired me to play a private monarch game with Gilgamesh, just to wreck some havoc with vultures.

Oh man, I missed this completely! You can see I didn't say a word about aggresive ai in my pre game thoughts... Anyway, this is a poor excuse for my cardboard defense.

Nobody said you can't have a cardboard defense playing against aggressive AI's. If you out-tech your opponants and are tactical about your troop placement you can clear out swarms of enemies with very few units anyway.

Seriously, what is up with the Spambots in this thread? Three different junk posts I've had to delete. What a pain...
