ok, I played the turn with lewwyns coaching. pictures will have to come later, I need sleep.
we killed his lead combat 2 chariot with the loss of 1 chariot. the victorious chariot is injured (1.7/4) but has 3 experience points. he is on victory hill with 4 uninjured chariots and a warrior. there is a chariot theodyssey as well.
unfortunately, the attack revealed the gold mine - with 2 more azza chariots. 1 promoted, 1 unpromoted. so he has 5 in the area as well, 2 promoted. but they are spread out in 3 stacks. he is trying to circle around the forests, I guess. but that will be difficult with our road network, we'd be in much more trouble if he just marched a stack of doom and hit us head on.
anyway we offered peace. if he accepts, he has one turn to snipe iron city from us, we can settle the western desert tile (iron in first ring, rice and gold in 2nd) next turn. and will have several spears by the time peace runs out.
so cross your fingers. heh, more likely he refuses, or counters demanding the odyssey. then things get more dicey.
we have 5 workers in position to chop chariots (there go future wonder plans, lol), so we'll be able to give him hell for awhile.

whatever happens, i think contesting that iron spot was the right choice given the map setup. unfortunately, it doesnt look like Azza is going anywhere soon - this will be tough.
What is your thought on settling the iron city in wartime? worth the gamble?

Why do you want the iron spot so badly?

spears, and to keep him from getting praets. we don't have copper.
waterbat - iron working in 2 turns. then we have to max tax a turn to have the cash to upgrade the warrior to a spear. so likely 4 turns. which means we'll have to burn through forests and too many whips .

Just wishing you guys luck.
Havent read any other threads or lurker yet so atm ded-lurking you.
Azza spreading out his forces is a serious mistake, as is not bringing his CG-warriors along. Perhaps he thought you were gassed after losing those 3 chariots. Losing his C2 chariot like this will hurt his effort.
Can't say you could have done anything otherwise here. Next to rome with no copper meant you had to take the risk or be at his mercy.
Wonder if Serdoa knows that you are fighting, and is considering hitting Azza from the south? Probably just glad he's out of it and expanding merrily along.
There could also be iron to the 'safe' west of you, mabye the contested spot is Azza's metal, and you have some nearby to the west? One can hope.

Azza's score increased on civstats. I'm betting he took peace and settled the iron under our noses. Fucked. I hope to god we can find another source of iron nearby.

Ok so he didn't take peace and he didn't settle the iron! He did settle elsewhere though and if its near more iron...
Azza attacked us, he killed 1 chariot and we killed 2 on defense. He also got a GG. We are 10/30 for GG points. Azza got double GG points for attacking and for winning battles in his territory. Fucking fuck.
I attacked his chariots. I lost 3 but I killed 3. We have 2 chariots and the warrior left. The chariots ran home the warrior is sitting in our borders on the hill as bait covering one wounded chariot. If Azza attacks it with his last chariot we have 2 full health chariots that can hit ti next turn. I had to whip Illiad again... Hated to do it. I chopped a chariot in Odyssey as well. I offered white flag peace to Azza again. Maybe now that he's lost 5 chariots he'll do it. Also given that he settled somewhere else he probably doesn't have a settler left to snipe the iron spot so if he gives us white peace we can grab it.
2 turns to IW. Hopefully we already have a source of Iron in our borders?
Bigger you want to get pictures?

Azza logged in and declined peace. Then he surveyed the wreckage I had done on his units and knew he couldn't get Odyssey. He then offered white peace back! I logged in. Accepted peace, moved the settler and settled on the desert! Bigger you're going to have to rename the city I just named it OMGYES for now. I changed the build in Odysseey to a settler for the two chops. I also changed the build in Gilgamesh to a settler. I would build spears but we don't have the iron hooked yet. We need to move the workers down to the iron pronto. I am sad about having had to whip Illiad again, but it probably made Azza realize we were just going to keep pumping units so its fine.
We need sailing ASAP for one of these settlers.
