Oh right I didn't realise you didn't have them.
I don't know if its changed, but in base they don't start with it.

well, I dunno. I haven't used swordsmen in awhile. Still they are quite scary if you don't have axemen.
this opening could have gone much differently if azza played this differently. If he had chariots to defend Birds of tokyo, we would be fubar, he could have sent a horde of praets against us, while we had no metal. wouldnt have taken too long for him to wipe us out.

Ok played. I'm chopping the forest into the settler for Odyssey. The settler will be done EOT 76. I also double chopped into the settler at the cap. Gilgamesh's settler will be done EOT77. The iron will be hooked up T77. It was impossible to get it hooked sooner than that without moving a worker off the forest that chops into Gilgamesh moving off that would waste more worker turns. Since 2 cities are building settlers for 3 turns anyway it doesn't matter if the iron is hooked 1 turn later. I'm only using 2 workers.
The question is where do we want to plant our cities. Do we want to wait for sailing to use a settler or do we plant for the cow and the sheep? Where do we build the galley if we save the settler? 2 pop whip in Illiad?
I think we may want to settle the cow, corn, wine city next and save the other settler. Then we 2 pop whip a galley out of Illiad... That seems harsh but is the quickest way to get ICTs and silver without wasting time on another settler.
I started another WB in Illiad. Should we build something else? I found another fish with the WB. Plus this new WB can scout more. No chance we get military units out of Illiad.
I continued our current WB north. I'm afraid if we send it around south it might not be able to circle back around the top through the map edge and ice.
We need to mine the hill SW of Odyssey. Odyssey will likely be working both mines switching with cottages every now and then. No whips.
Do we still get double city walls production with pro?

1. yes, we still get 2x walls but NOT 2x castles.
2. don't like the northern wb route honestly, but you've already committed
3. yes, we need the silver site asap. not just for ICTR, which will be awesome, but also for the commerce generated by the silver AND the empire wide happy generated by the silver. Silver city should be city #6 at the latest. this is why I didn't want you chopping into gilgamesh - there is no rush, and I would rather save those chops for a wonder (maybe we can still get MoM or maybe even the great library). city #5 should probably be the cows/wines/corn spot - it should be able to work the corn for awhile, while theodyssey is getting rid of its whip unhappiness and can't grow too much.
Honestly, i don't think our economy can support 7 cities yet and the spot west of theOdyssey just isn't worth it. (it will be rough even supporting 6 - the silver site will more than pay for itself but the wine/cow spot will be a big drain until we have monarchy)
4. yes, we need the mine on the odyssey. but Beowulf should be priority #1 for improving.
5. hmm. theIliad will have to build the galley, I think. I want 2 galleys, but that may have to wait a bit. theOdyssey could slowbuild it if it has enough hammers with both mines, but probably we are better off pumping spears out of there. ugh, I don't think the one turn delay in connecting iron is worth it oh well.
I need to log in and look around in a bit, I'll post pictures later.

some pictures:
Achilleus 3 will hit the gold next turn, and make its way south of azza.hopefully well south before the treaty ends. there is a combat 1 chariot in both theodyssey and beowulf, both healing. the settler in theOdyssey will complete thanks to chops in 3 turns and overflow into a spear. it will found the wine/cows/shared corn site 2 turns later.
lewwyn wants to 2-pop whip the settler in gilgamesh next turn, to get military out quicker. Im not thrilled, since it will have to sit in theIliad until we discover sailing and get a galley whipped (so prob 5 turns for sailing, and at least another 2 for the galley). but I think I lost that argument . Lewwyn just make sure not to whip until we can put the overflow into a spear, not a chariot.
Looks like Lewwyn made the right decision to ignore me and go north with the workboat instead of south:
the city that claims the crabs will be mediocre (unless there is more seafood in the fog to the right of the island). the city that claims that fight will be bad. both probably still worth it for intercontinental trade routes. But maybe not until after we have currency.
demos at the end of turn (still waiting on Serdoa and Brick to play)

I think you misunderstood me on Gilgamesh. I was just talking about what if we whipped Gilgamesh. I don't think we should. It's going to build in 4 turns which is just fine for us. I was referring to not working all cottages instead of the wheat and rice and slowing it down further. I don't think we'll have the iron hooked in time for a 2-pop whip to be of real use.

well the #1 city is size 8, so whoever controls that surely has the #1 population mark.
its not azza or serdoa, though.
