New FFH/EITB PBEM?

I suspect the missing picks are Yell0w's - he had computer troubles about a week ago, then posted that they were fixed, then promptly disappeared again. I wouldn't be surprised if his computer decided to die a second time. Hopefully he gets it fixed for sure on try #2.

You are very welcome; I hope you guys enjoy the map!

Yeah, hopefully Yell0w gets back on here soon...

I can give out starting positions if someone wants to roll a turn order, but I was thinking, maybe an acceptable compensation for the Illians (should someone choose them) would be to automatically go first in the turn order, or is that too weak? It's definitely weaker than a free worker tech. I'm not actually sure how that situation got resolved.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

Honestly ... I don't think banning stasis is really necessary.

But, then again, some mods have the worldspell require sorcery :D

It's not because it is overpowered, per se (although I would argue that it is one of the best, if not the best world spell), but because it makes the initial turns very boring in a PBEM.

Nah, I would heavily disagree with it being the strongest worldspell. But it has many uses and certainly isn't bad. And of course you are right that it is simply boring if you have to go through 10 (or 7?) turns only hitting Enter and moving your scout. But that can be circumvented if players just get together on a weekend as you can easily play through those turns in like 2 hours. Depends on schedules etc. of course and if it isn't possible it is ~1 week that you are not really playing. Don't think that is sooo bad though, as you do the exact same the first 10-15 turns of every game anyhow.

Most players have already submitted their civ picks, and decision was already made. Similarly, the decision for difficulty(emperor) is probably too late to reconsider.

You might not have implied it, but you certainly made it easy to infer. Given that you said "Maybe stasis shouldn't be banned" in the setup thread for this game. tongue

I suppose you are correct good sir wink

As far as Yellow coming back, yes, I do hope he comes back. More than that however, I hope that he is still alive. If he is not, it may be quite some time before we are contacted by his next of kin (if at all)

Uh. Unless you know something specific here, I wouldn't immediately leap from somebody not being on the forum in a few weeks to them being dead. eek

Especially when they were having computer troubles immediately before their disappearance.
