Imperium 17: RefSteel's History of Ultra-Impoverished Kitties

Errr ... I hope I'm not the only one who played this game. It was a blast, [strike]though I haven't had time to get everything up on my site yet. Oh, well - alone or otherwise, I'll have a report up by the deadline (I'm at GMT-8, so sometime in the next 24 hours) and I'll post here again when I do![/strike]

EDIT: The report is now up !

Took longer than I expected, but the full report is now posted in the usual place. And no, it's not ridiculously long (by my standards!) - I just had trouble getting everything uploaded on time. I don't know what people will think of this report; one result of constantly experimenting is that I tend to hit and miss, I think, rather than being consistently good with a regular reporting style. On the other hand: It's all kinds of fun!

Nice game RefSteel and report. I also found this a fun setup with lots of room but slow start due to crocked homeworld and then cranky neighbours. Different expansion by AI's with you seeing the more dangerous Meklars and Psilons to my expanding Sakkra stunting the others. Events were somewhat favourable for me also, missing the first two bad events despite being the leader. Glad to see you are familiar with the need for 'Stabilization and Actuation of Virtual Integrity for Natural Galaxies'. lol

With Barren in 2314 and Artemis max'ing in 2331 (first colony ship in 2336), we had simimlar starts. I like your use of tax/reserve pump for building scouts on Artemis instead of my slow build of 3 on Fierias, very clever. Mine were quicker but yours were far more efficient. Things varied after that, of course. However we both dominated in 2449 and this was my status then (still not in contact with 2PE Bulrathi).

Looking over both of our starts, I suspect the best bet would have been a hybrid of the two: Using the tax slider for the first three turns as I did, but building scouts at Fierias (in spite of the inefficiency) as you did. Spending the extra 15 BC on early factories would probably have sped the first colony ship by at least a year. On the other hand, this method would technically be the most resource-inefficient, which means the early colony ship comes at the cost of some early research. Always trade-offs in this game!
