Hi all. I'd like to set up a Realms Beyond PBEM game. The idea is that it has the multiplayer strategies of the apolyton demogame without all the stress. Also, unlike online multiplayer, you have plenty of time to consider your actions.
The settings are designed to favour a quick game: Maximum of 5 players (one of which is me!), Small Map, Inland Sea, Quick Speed, latest official BTS patch. Other settings sorted out later.
The game is meant to be short and friendly; hopefully the community we have here will allow turns to progress at a reasonable rate and with a decent standard of play. Despite the relaxed atmosphere though, the settings may produce some violent play. Don't sign up unless you are prepared for that, but MP experience is not necessary (I have very little).
So I am looking for a maximum of 4 players for this venture, who will be reliable and willing to play on until the end of the game. Subs can be sought for temporary outages if announced in advance. Also I will require a map-maker.
If there are more than 4 sign-ups I will give priority with equal weight to (1) order of sign up and (2) if I perceive you to be "reliable".

NOT a signup. ![smile smile](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/smile2.gif) I hope to see enough interest to get this to work, though. I would love to follow or read about such a game while it was taking place, or after it finished. Good luck finding some takers!
I can also create a map for you, if desired. Ive already done two of them, for CivFanatics and the Intersite Demo games.

i'd like to play.
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

I would like to participate.
I also wouldn't not mind if more than 5 teams join, to make for more diplomacy and international politics. Up to soooo to decide of course.

PBEM (play by email) games aren't typically team based (ie more than 1 human looking after 1 leader). Also, these games take ages ... I typically think in terms of 12 to 18 months to play a game. Remembering what you did (and why you did it) 12 months ago is difficult.
That said, I am involved in a team based (2v2) PBEM game and we have two open threads at CFC (with a gentlemen's agreement not to look at the other teams thread).
One thing that I have been trying to do with my current PBEM games is to keep a log of my thoughts each turn - helps you keep focused on the big game issues.

Yes, I also thought to keep some sort of online log, in a thread that the other players will agree not to look at.
The only problem is, if a sub is needed, he will most likely have looked at the other threads.

Good to have you on board Dreylin, Ruff Hi and Mostly Harmless.
I do not mind if people keep a public log - that is for the individual to decide.
Now we have some players, we should discuss settings. The most important setting I think is the tech trading setting. I was considering having no tech trading to limit the diplomacy needed. The diplomacy is the most headache-inducing aspect of the apolyton demogame, and ticking the no tech trading box was one of the ways I thought of to reduce it. But if most people want tech trading turned on or no tech brokering turned on then that's OK by me. The other option, of course, it to begin with always war ![devil devil](https://www.realmsbeyond.net/forums/images/smilies/devil.gif) .
If anyone has any strong opinions on the other settings then state them here. Otherwise we will leave the mapmaker (Sullla - you're hired!) to decide them.
Still room for another player if anyone else wants to join. I still want to limit it to five players because the sequential turns will drag on with more. But 4 players is absolutely fine too and if no one else signs up within a few days then we'll start with 4.

Well personally I prefer to have at least some tech trading enabled, otherwise your diplo options are limited to territory, resources & who to dogpile. Prefer no tech brokering.
I like some randomness, so vote for Huts & Events.
I also never know which leader/civ to pick, so am generally more comfortable with random ... or decided by the mapmaker.

I agree with everything Dreylin said.
