Actually, we were the ones pushing for extra NAP stuff, not CivFanatics. They didn't seem all that interested from what I remember of our conversation. Then again, it's also possible that they really wanted stone for whipping walls and spices for happiness to offset whipping unhappiness. On the third hand, would you really be pushing to settle a stupidly aggressive city if you were expecting an attack from your other neighbor? In other words, I really have no idea.
We have CFC down for no real military technologies researched thus far in the Classical age: Mathematics, Calendar, and Monarchy. (Do we count Math as a military tech? Maybe.) No Iron Working, Horseback Riding, or Construction techs though. Let's hope for a repeat of the WPC/German war: lots of bodies dead, cities razed, and losers on all sides.
not that it would be terrible if the spanish came out ahead ... they're so far behind that they could probably conquer all of CFC and still be laughably behind in anything worth mentioning
Might be good to warn the Spanish that we are obliged to give stone and spices to CFC as per a previously signed deal. Otherwise, they might think we are doing this to oppose them. Especially the stone, since it helps with walls, could be seen as some sort of antagonistic movement (maybe they'll even think we warned CFC).
If only we had known a little sooner. I would not want to join in the fight but it would have been nice to be able to force CFC to our dot map. Oh well, that horse is out of the barn now anyway.
I agree, let's not mention anything to CFC. In our reply to the Spanish team I would suggest that we concluded our NAP within the last couple of turns and that stone was a negotiated part of the treaty. We can say with truth that the timing of the deal is bad and that perhaps we wish we could change the terms, but a deal is a deal and all that jazz. Then something about we would be glad to party with them later on, once we can honorably do so. Close with best of luck and enjoy the party!
I'm tempted to warn CFC anyway, as Spanish AP can roll through a ton of CFC territory. Remember, we want a secure border. Spanish AP won't give one.
On yet the other hand, after Spanish AP has finished rolling through all of CFC's territory, we can turn around and roll all of that land with our giant stack of highly promoted knights .

I would be very, very surprised if they are able to even keep a single city.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.
1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.
2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.
3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.
4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

CFC has lots and lots and lots of pop, can get quick walls, and get lots of numbers and cheap units.
So the Spanish can easily break any one of CFC's cities, given enough catapults, but they will move very slowly through CFC land. I really doubt the Spanish has had enough production for two real city-busting stacks.
