No one has commented on what the 'loss' of 300g would do to us? It looks like 300g is 2.5-ish turns of savings / research and would effectively delay our future techs by that much (until CFC repaid the amount). Is there anything that we want from CFC that would make this a worthwhile investment?
Also - turning down the request will probably kill any future NAP discussion with them - would we be comfortable with that?
I have finally decided to put down some cash and register a website. It is www.ruffhi.com. Now I remain free to move the hosting options without having to change the name of the site.

Particularly No because we need to use that gold to improve our position. We have a tight plan for our first golden age. We're not jeopardising it just for the sake of appeasing a weak team that has tried to extort us in the past.
Besides, once this is over, CFC will be the one begging us for a NAP. I say we conquer them after we've digested the Germans.[/i]
With CivPlayers I think it was more of a case of misunderstanding the relative position of each team regard the border area, and hamhanded diplo from them.
With CFC, they're annoying, strong-arming, and settling up to our faces. And they are almost as bad as the Germans in not ending their turns.
Furthermore, I consider that forum views should be fluid in width
That'd be one way to seriously end any and all diplo discussions with them
On a serious note, what about saying something along the lines of "We'd love to, but unfortunately our next 10-15t of tech are very strictly lined up--that is, we need them in a quite precise time frame to line up with our other plans. Thus, the opportunity cost of 300g now is quite high for us. We'd be willing to listen to your offers for how to repay the loan, but because the cost to us is so high now it'd have to be a significant offer for us to accept it." I think scooter could probably put that in better diplo, but while I agree with the sentiment that the request from them is ridiculous we might as well try to be diplomatic in how we turn it down.
As everyone else has been saying, that's a big fat NO to the CivFanatics request. We're on a tight schedule as far as teching goes; we're in the process of lining up a series of techs (Meditation, Code of Laws, Civil Service) in the next ten turns so that we can pop our Golden Age on roughly Turn 120. This would be a terrible time to give away gold to another team. Even if they were willing to pay us back something like 500 gold later, it would still be a poor deal from our perspective. Plus it's CFC asking; they settled that idiot stone city on our border and drove a really onerous bargain for our last NAP (insisting on free stone + spices for the next 70 turns). I'm in no mind to give them anything.
I also love how this forum was a total ghost town all weekend, and then we had something like 30 posts here as soon as the CFC message came in. Well said, everyone!
Remind them that our free gift of gold is going to probably save them ~300g worth of hammers for the duration of the war. Then, tell them no, go die in a fire.
