[SPOILERS] Serdoa as DeGaulle of Maya

Archers upgrade to crossbows in the queue even though you might think it would be longbows. You can tell this from the order of the two upgrade icons when you have an archer selected (I forget which way it is, though). This is the same reason why warriors upgrade to spears.

I would enjoy taking over but I'm way too spoiled to even consider it.

I am 90% sure food happens first, so you wouldn't get culture from the starving artist.

Meaning no offence by it, but if you're looking for unspoiled lurkers your thread is not a good candidate for it, as the low level of posts are unlikely to get a dedlurker from.
If you want a take over, best to ask in Civ general.

Well, the artist thing was easy to make work (I hope): I simply put all 3 citizens as artists. One will starve to death but that still keeps 2 as artists which will pop the borders EOT. So he can start with his catapult but if he isn't getting really lucky my second Mace will be at least at str 7 I'd assume. 7 + 20% city defense + 25% fortify (uh, do the keep fortify-bonus when I upgrade? otherwise thats just 5%). So something around str 8.75 to 10.15. His Ele has str 8, his Axes even less.

Really, I only fear his Ele. Had I 6 gold more I would upgrade the last Axe to a Mace as well, so that I could hit him definitely next turn. I asked Bigger for 15 gold in exchange for 2 gpt. But I unfortunately did hit end turn, so if he agrees but plays last (or as late that I can't react before turn rolls) then it won't help. My fault obviously.

He loses the fortify and I assume from your description won't gain any back. (Units gain 5% fortify if they have full movement points available when the turn rolls. Newly built or upgraded units don't have movement points available.)

Yeah, but I doubt anyone of those that I feel are able to do something with the state of my game are unspoiled. And I am pretty much against getting some unexperienced player into that, just to get devoured by Commodore, so that he can easily win when he should most definitely lose just for that one mind-boggling attack. God, Commodore, I do like your threads, but I really can't see what this attack is gaining you at all. You can't keep that city if I really attack it. I can't let you keep it anyway as it could be used to start an invasion on my main cities. What exactly do you win by this? At best you delayed me by 2 turns to get to Guilds, thats it. That city is not contributing anything to the empire right now, I just took it because it clearly is in my sphere of influence. Gah... why can't you guys not at least play somewhat logical? Biggers attack on my other barb city made sense. It was close to his home, I could not defend it and I didn't have any defenders in it to speak of. This attack? Completely insane. He should even have been able to see my troops before he declared war. And he should know that I can upgrade them - the gold-balance can be seen in the trade-screen or by opening a diplo-window. The tech-status should be relatively obvious if you look at my tile-yields from the workshops. What more do I need to put into my cities to make obvious that an attack is dumb? I mean for gods sake, there are dozen of places he still can expand too. He is just building up his empire and his 15+ cities and still need infrastructure. He can easily dominate this game if he concentrates on that. And instead... he attacks a city that can't even in the slighest be said that he had any rights to it? Why? It's not like I did the whole game anything to him. It's not like that will set me back. Fuck it, there are still 8 tiles of jungle between this city and my main-cities. I do churn out 1-turn LBs with ease in the cap and can get up to 2 LBs per 3 turns in the second city. What exactly is the idea here? Take the city because I surely will let him have one next to my cap that he can only reinforce by water.. why exactly? And why even take it, he has dozens of better spots available. He could even attack Azza if he so desired to be at war, I am certain his cities are less defended than mine, especially those island holdings. Or the Zulu if he really feels like it.

Honestly, thats just pissing me off. Not that I am attacked, but that there is no sensible reason to do it. He isn't gaining anything by it. Why does everyone try to throw his game so badly in this PB? I mean, sure, right now I only am 5th in soldiers (with 290k to the 1st with 320k....). But I am definitely the next strongest empire nearby. IF you attack me, attack me for real to stop my push for Guilds. But this? Thats not a real attack, thats just making sure I am annoyed.

Thats a shame. Though having str 8 instead of str 5 units should make good the loss of 25% fortify. Should have updated the LB though last turn already. Had some suspicion, but didn't want to waste the gold. Oh well. So 20% defense + str 7 gives still 8.4 against his 8. It will really come down to if his catapult survives and how much damage it does. If he doesn't damage one of the Maces at all (unlikely but possible) or if it doesn't damage it down to str 7 (not sure how much damage one catapult-strike normally does, I think that is dependent on the unit strenghts in question?), then obviously Comms chances go down considerably. And even if he wins but damages his Ele too much in the process, he might just lose it, especially if I can get 6 gold pieces from someone.

I wanted to play the new campaign of SC2 right now, thats why I am on vacation... not to think about this war :/

Well, Azza declined my trade-proposal of him giving me 15 gold and getting 2gpt back. Guess that means chances are high that he is also going to attack me soon...

A 15 gold loan is worth 3gpt IMO.

(I don't know what Azza's plans are.)
I have to run.
