Novice did indeed settle on the plains hill. I'm moving our warrior to get visibility on the city, then I'll leave him alone.
With that, Novice was first to three cities. Dazed or Boldly (I forget who) grew his capital to size 4, instead. We have two size 3 cities in the top 5, and I finally implemented a naming scheme.
If you know what I mean.

Here is something I'd like to do, once we get caste system:
One artist bomb can secure that whole island, except for three tiles at the southern tip.

Impressive. Why not put the city 1S and be able to work both pigs and an elephant, and still control just as many (if not more) tiles?
Or do you want to settle more cities there, and value the intercontinental (yes?) trade routes?

Hopefully we'll land the great lighthouse. Thus, every city should be coastal, if possible.

Dazed continues to be slightly annoying with his warrior, so I had to turn my warrior near Novice around, to make sure I can cover the new city adequately. OTOH, maybe Novice will interpret my "one step ahead, one step back" dance as some kind of non-aggression message.
We ended up three beakers short on getting polytheism last turn, which is probably a symptom of sloppy micromanagement. I had figured that another turn wouldn't matter, but I forgot that our workboat gets three moves from circumnavigation. So getting the border expansion this turn would have been useful. Instead, the workboat got to explore for one turn, and uncovered a couple of deer resources on that island. Surely there must be something more strategic than that over there, too.
To compensate for my sloppy micro, I made amends by simming ahead a bit before playing the turn. The main question for this turn was whether to go settler or worker next in Brunei. I first tried going settler first, and it seemed pretty awkward to me, but when evaluating worker first I discovered a beautiful micro plan in its future. Unfortunately, this margin is too small to contain it.

Settler completed in capital, and moved two tiles along the road. Next turn, it can move the rest of the way to the city site, without exposing itself to Dazed's warrior. If he moves N, which I'm guessing he will, we can cover the settler with two warriors. Alternatively, we can take a shot at him, but we'll be attacking across the river. If he moves NE, then he's definitely dead.
Both cities are now building workers. After this worker, the capital will build a four-turn settler. Brunei will build a warrior and grow to 4. Research will be at 0% for two turns, then 100% for four turns to complete BW. After that it's another turn at 0%, and two turns at 100% to Agriculture, just in time for when the horse/clams/corn city is settled.

Dazed moved as predicted. Covered our settler with two warriors, and kept one on the roaded forest tile. Our fourth warrior is moving north, I'm thinking he could park on the gems tile or something.

Settled our third city, and turned on research. Our GNP number (when compared to the sandbox) suggests that two opponents have bronze working. Nice to pick up some known tech bonus.
