Gillette Turn Discussion

I saw new pictures in the dropbox folder and thought I'd missed it. I'm off work today so I can be around pretty much anytime, at least on my phone.

This battle is going to be bloody. Are we sending all our cats in for collateral? They're going to be able to get more than those 9 maces into WIFOM by T143, I bet. I have high hopes for our naval expedition, though. It doesn't seem like they've been whipping triremes.

Turn 141 part two

Yosarian, Cheater Hater and I played this bit over chat - starting out with this power graph, it's not looking great for us (bearing in mind these graphs are one turn behind). We thought about the offer from Trolls, but they'll just roll over TEAM if we don't knock them out now, so better go down in a blaze of glory now rather than conceding in 40 turns.

Down south we discover a lot of maces in On the Rocks, for which we get pretty poor odds.

So instead of attacking this turn we'll fork Gin Tonic and Cuba Libre for next turn (and sit on the fish - very unfair that we can't blockadefrown)

We'll also have an 88% chance of killing this galley next turn.

Up north we moved the 1-mover force in and I tried to persuade Yosarian and CH that putting our knights here would scare Trolls more.

But in the end we opted to keep them all together so our final WIFOM assault force is:

Will it be enough?

On tech we had a choice between taking Calendar for happy and health or Compass/Optics for naval domination? It looks like we dominate the sea already, but its the land that is the problem for us. So Yossarian and I thought Calendar would be more useful.

Not much to decide next turn - but the turn after we might want to chat again. Lets see what happens!

Depending on what we see next turn, I think it'll be better to send our galley to Gin Tonic over Cuba Libre. That should do more to keep their defenders spread out, since from there we can continue to their cities further north and then can't just send all their troops to the south.

Trolls drafted (or 1-pop whipped) 3 more times this turn, and did a 2-pop whip.

Turn 142 part one

I'll put this up now for comments:

Gin Tonic has one mace in and Cuba Libre has a mace, an axe and an archer in so I think will take four or five zerks to conquor. I think we should burn G&T and take Cuba Libre this turn - they can't whip or draft very quickly here though so we could pick it up on our way back from White Russian and Weissbier (MOM city). I think it's best to take it sooner rather than later though, so if I don't hear objections I'll take it at the end of this turn.

Yeah, if we leave Cuba Libre they can upgrade the Axe to a Mace, the existing Mace can get full fortify bonus, and they can whip it down once or twice more. It'll be much easier to take it out now rather than waiting. It's too bad that On the Rocks' culture will keep the Wheat tile under Troll control...

Do they have any navy, or are they going to just keep letting us control the seas?

Watch out for HA's starting next turn.

Turn 142 part two

Domestic stuff first:

Smooth Criminal has so much food that I think I can just keep whipping it every two turns forever. I think the Globe Theatre will do well here...

In the stone has even better food, but I think being on an island makes it less useful for the Globe...

I'm still building units in Smooth, Foil, Gladius, Halberd, Jemmy and Katana. Do we want to have more than that coming? Trolls can probably get a lot more boots on the battlefield with drafting, so I hoped for a short war and to get back to building infrastructure (perhaps even with OR). But with TEAM (possibly) joining in (possibly) three turns time I don't think it'll be that quick.

And now the bit you're really here for:

Fingers crossed...

Yay!

Over at WIFOM this shows our stack and their defenses. The knight below just completed in Katana this turn. I hope it'll tempt an attack from a unit that would otherwise be sitting behind 60% defenses... We also have three catapults in Jemmy that we can keep in reserve to repel counter-attacks, or send to the stack to help with the next target (wherever that may be) I'm pretty comfortable leaving them where they are for now, as I think our next target is Bloody Mary. Any thoughts? Should we send the stack after On the Rocks instead?

Gin Tonic only has one mace in, the first attack reduces him to 2.8.

Meaning an unpromoted mace gets 99.5% odds and wins without a scratch!

The city only has a granary, so it's probably just been used for producing units.

Not any more! Our mace is vulnerable to attack from White Russian, but I doubt they've got much in that city to attack with...

This is where the Troll navy is. I wonder if they've got any more?

The odds are worse at Cuba Libre, due to the hill. Lets see how much damage our first (unpromoted) Zerk can do?

Down to 3.2, the second Zerk gets 27% odds against the axe and also knocks him down to 3.2. We bring up another galley and the unpromoted Zerk gets 63% odds on the archer and wins!

Our City Raider Zerk gets 89% odds against the axe and wins and I have to bring up one more galley to finish the job at 90%:

Cuba Libre is empty, and the wheat is controlled by On the Rocks, but it still saves 100 hammers for a settler so I kept it. What would you like to call it? Naginata is next on the list.

I made an error here - if I'd uncovered this tile a bit earlier we'd have been able to capture a fast worker (do they stay fast when you catch them?) As it is I've already moved all the galleys so I expect Trolls to delete him next turn.

Trolls haven't caught us on power yet...

This was a pretty successful turn I think! Two cities taken and roughly equal units traded (3 zerks for 2 maces, an axe and an archer). Lets hope next turn goes as well...

Looks good smile

Do you think we'll play the turn tomorrow? If so, when do you want us on to coordinate the turn?

I don't think workers stay fast, but I'm not sure :/

How many units do we have left on Galleys? What are we doing with them--staying around On The Rocks (on land or in galleys?) or moving to Weissber?

How's our WW with just those couple kills, considering we're facing Zeus?
