Windows 7?

I have until 12am to get in on the pre-order half price deal for $64cnd @ futureshop. Is it worth the upgrade from Vista?

Any compatibility issues with Diablo/II, GW, and Civ, etc.?

I've been running the Windows 7 RC on one of my laptops and I definitely like it. It's not so different from Vista (which I personally like) but it is significantly more streamlined to use. Even in the beta all the hardware updated automatically and very smoothly (no problems with drivers etc.).

I don't know about DII et. al., but I'd imagine if it runs fine under Vista it'll run fine under Windows 7. I'd recommend getting it.

Windows 7 IS Vista, don't be fooled otherwise. If you like Vista then it's probably worth the upgrade sooner or later.

"Sooner or later" is why I hesitate. I figure I get a new computer every 4 - 5 years unless there's an awesome game that needs higher specs than the current comp can reasonably (price) upgrade to match. So I am in for a new rig in about 2 years time, and get Windows 7 for free... In other words, is it worth $64 for 2 years? ...like, if DIII runs faster with W7

Worth the Upgrade: AFAIK yes. Some tests summed it up with "Windows 7 is like .. as we wished Vista would have been".

Compatibility: no idea yet. If you got something older running under Vista chances to get it to work under Windows 7 are also good.

If you're upgrading in 2 years and will be getting 7 with that one anyway, then no, it's not worth upgrading now. Unlike the XP/Vista switch, there are no Windows 7 exclusive features. Vista will continue to be supported by MS for another 3 or 4 years until Windows 8 comes out, so unless you hate Vista there's no reason to change right now.
