Sent the acceptance off to sunrise:
Quote:sunrise,
The League has discussed your proposal and are happy to agree. We value the opportunity to make early contact with our neighbours, and also share your desire to enjoy a period of peaceful expansion. We consider the NAP in place through to the end of t60, and although there are currently no renewal terms included we are already discussing the merits of a longer-term deal between our civs.
We are located West and somewhat South of your capital; our explorer took a fairly direct line to reach your borders, so we do not know how far the land extends North of us nor whether it is occupied. We have also sent an explorer South, with no contact so far. When/if we do meet anyone else, we will return the favour and endeavour to facilitate contact between you.
Please let us know whether we should declare WAR right away.
Dreylin of the League.
My thoughts behind telling him where we are is that it will probably make it less likely that his explorer comes and visits us soon. With the potential for contact to the NW he's be more likely to head that way, and why shouldn't we share scouting duties.

I like the reply and agree with the information sharing approach. It's good no matter what will happen in the future.
Meeting rego/dantski's india should give us a nice discount on mysticism which we need on the way to priesthood.

Response from sunrise, along with a quick missive back:
Quote:League members,
Great to hear it!
You may declare war at your convenience. The hill tile 2SE of your warrior is the meeting tile. Regoarrarr tells me he will have his unit on his side of the channel on T27. If you want maximum bang for your buck before that time, you can continue south along the coast until T24 and then head back to the meeting tile.
All the best,
-sunrise
Quote:sunrise,
We are now at war. Grrrrrrr!
We'll head directly South from where we are, and then come back along the coast. We will maintain a 1tile buffer between our Warrior and your Capital.

I moved Primo SE, and marked the target tile. Scouting Bob spotted a Lion behind him and moved SW. Tyler Durden moved NW revealing Fish!
Regarding the signs; blocker looks good (subject to seafood), and I think that "too aggressive" is what it says.
Also, regarding this:
Quote:Hi Dreylin,
I am starting to warm up to sunrise I have a proposal for us to consider which I think you would like: a very long term alliance with sunrise. We divide the land equitably (more for us ) and collaborate in all aspects including declaring war on other civs, exchanging techs and units. For example, he can build nicely promoted siege and we can build rifles/horses then exchange. Practically I am thinking that we could propose him to become sister civs We would not declare war on each other ever or until say modern or future eras. I need to run so I cannot put all the ideas here, but I think you get the main idea. Do you think it's reasonable?

What a change of heart in such a short time!
I rather think we may be jumping from one extreme to the other here, but I'm certainly not averse to exploring this aspect. tbh I think it may be a bit early in the game to hitch our cart to one horse. I think we should continue to make cooperative noises - particularly until it becomes clearer about the lay on the land - and see how things develop.
But with a positive attitude!
BTW for the audience: I'll work on a "big map" sometime soon - though I may wait until Lin's borders have popped.

Well, I am running some ideas here even though they may be a bit extreme sometimes, but the point is to discuss. That's the main reason for the league no?
My change in approach was because you said sunrise is a very competent general and because he was quite forthcoming in facilitating contact. I know that at this point that may not mean that much since he is in a slightly disadvantageous position and he still owes us for not attacking him first, but still... I think that if we secure our western border to that extent we'd be in pretty good shape, but that assuming that what he said about the map is true (that he is on a peninsula which cannot be that big). We seem to have quite a bit of land to our S.
Another reason I considered this is because we could take advantage in a sense of his UU/UBs by warring together. Of course we can still do that without that restrictive of a pact. Given that the map appears quite large I don't see many early wars happening.
I feel that an attack on sunrise may be quite risky if he has copper available easily. Vultures are good, but against axemen they are only marginally better, and the defender has the advantage.
I guess we still have to wait and see. I don't want to rush into any decision of course, but we should consider as many options as possible.

I don't want to ruin your good attitude towards Vultures, but I would say they are marginally worse than axemen. In normal fight it's 6,25 (Axeman) vs 6,00 (Vulture).

Axeman are strength 5 w/ +50% vs. Melee - 5 x 1.5 = 7.5
Vultures are strength 6 w/ +25% ve. Melee - 6 x 1.25 = 7.5
The differences come because each promotion on a Vultue is multiplied by 6 as apposed to 5 for an axeman.

Played this morning's turn:
Primo moved South revealing a bit more of sunrise's land
Tyler Durden moved NE revealing another coastal tile and getting back towards Lin - we need to decide which direction we want to send him next, though that may depend on what the border pop reveals in 4t.
Scouting Bob moved SE, SW and we have some options: SE, SE onto the forested hill is the obvious one, or SW, SW(?).

Unfortunately not. It doesnât work that way.
base Vulture 6 + 25% Melee = 7,5
base Axeman 5 + 50% Melee = 7,5
But if they meet the melee bonus is deducted so:
Vulture 6 vs Axeman 5+25% = 6,25
If you don't believe you can check.

Unfortunately for the Vulture, Mortius's odds are right, the game calculates by removing +25% from both units, and then giving the axeman +25%
(green is the vulture, red is the axeman)
[Edit]Whoops, just a bit too slow...[/Edit]
