Is that character a variant? (I just love getting asked that in channel.) - Charis

Okay we've got 9 teams now, plus BaII who still needs a teammate.
I think we'll get one more player, who will hopefully team with BaII so he can participate too.

Also I don't need a teammate. I just have to have someone else fill in for me when I leave during the summer. I believe there will be 2 times, 1 in early June and 1 time in early August where I will be away for 2 weeks and I need someone to fill in for me.

Hey, so WarriorKnight and I will be teaming together. I'm waiting for his response on a few settings, but we have definitely agreed on the following: Barbarians: Off
Everyone start with scout+warrior: Just scout
Huts: Off
Random Events: Off
Espionage: On but spies not allowed and Gspies settled or GA
Corporations: Off
War elephants banned: Yes
Nukes banned: Yes
Blockades banned: Yes
Gifting banned: Peace Treaty only
Pacal/Willem/Inca/India banned

I personally cannot stress how much I want a balanced, preferably mapmaker-made, map; however, WK has not yet mentioned his preference to me on that regard.
Merovech's Mapmaking Guidelines:
0. Player Requests: The player's requests take precedence, even if they contradict the following guidelines.

1. Balance: The map must be balanced, both in regards to land quality and availability and in regards to special civilization features. A map may be wonderfully unique and surprising, but, if it is unbalanced, the game will suffer and the player's enjoyment will not be as high as it could be.

2. Identity and Enjoyment: The map should be interesting to play at all levels, from city placement and management to the border-created interactions between civilizations, and should include varied terrain. Flavor should enhance the inherent pleasure resulting from the underlying tile arrangements. The map should not be exceedingly lush, but it is better to err on the lush side than on the poor side when placing terrain.

3. Feel (Avoiding Gimmicks): The map should not be overwhelmed or dominated by the mapmaker's flavor. Embellishment of the map through the use of special improvements, barbarian units, and abnormal terrain can enhance the identity and enjoyment of the map, but should take a backseat to the more normal aspects of the map. The game should usually not revolve around the flavor, but merely be accented by it.

4. Realism: Where possible, the terrain of the map should be realistic. Jungles on desert tiles, or even next to desert tiles, should therefore have a very specific reason for existing. Rivers should run downhill or across level ground into bodies of water. Irrigated terrain should have a higher grassland to plains ratio than dry terrain. Mountain chains should cast rain shadows. Islands, mountains, and peninsulas should follow logical plate tectonics.

@BaII Ok good, a dedicated lurker should do then. Or a temporary sub who you tell what to do, and fingers crossed you aren't in a war :P

Looks like the majority thinks we should go with any cylindrical map. Who are the good map makers in RB?
I will contact a few to see if they can create us a map.

plako, Krill - not sure if either has time nor interest, but those are the best 2 for BTS-maps I'd say

Commodore is a pretty good mapmaker, too.

Whoever makes the map, it's just important to give them clear directions and then realize that anything not directed could end up in many different ways. I.e. mapmakers get grief from players because players expectations don't necessarily align with their instructions. Personally, I trust those three well enough to just say "balanced but not mirrored--have fun!"

Open discussion on the settings before we send them to the map maker. I would like to get feedback on the bans since not everyone participated in that conversation. Also is there anything more we want to tell the map maker? It's decided that the map will be cylindrical, but the map scripts only received a few scatter votes, so should we give the map maker completely free hands?

One more thing, I forgot one setting from the vote. Let me know what difficulty level you want.
I'm voting for Monarch.
