I didn't get the impression that they were angry or irritated at us specifically for getting the gems site - I think it's more that they saw the spot earlier and realised they failed to race for it.
Much like I view CivPlayers city of Xochicalco (blocking off a nice spot in the southwest for us) - they simply pushed into that area earlier than us.
I think that speaks pretty well for WPC, in that they put the onus on the outcome on their decisions, instead of blaming us. That said, I certainly support a gems-for-dyes trade with WPC. Heck, we can even throw in another low-value happy resource to tie them closer to us.

Our open borders with CivPlayers has just been cancelled. Did anyone here touch the diplo interface, or was it on their end? We haven't received any notice from them via regular channels.

I didn't do it. I see OT4E on chat, I'll poke him and ask about it.
edit: he says they did it, I'll post the chat here when it's done.

I will remind WPC of the fact that city was a barb city when we offer them gems.

I think they know this. No need to mention it.

What makes you think they do?

Doesn't even matter that it was a former barb city. They were tardy in expanding to that area, and thus we claimed the area. Just as CFC was tardy in claiming the Starfall spot.

Re-reading perhaps they don't (grabbing could mean settling as well as conquering I guess). Either way I wouldn't try to justify it - they said themselves that it was down to their war, so giving an excuse makes it sound like we think we did something wrong.

That's a good argument and I agree. It's probably best to say nothing.

No need to rehash the barb city thing, just offer them the gems trade.
