Not much to report - couple more turns to another GP, which I'll let sit, I think. I'm in a dangerous position and it's time to start building military again - I'm tops in score and my GNP, even at 40%, is insane and will just get higher with Oxford - and I'm only 4th in military.

This isn't a game where I can just pull away in tech, I don't think.

Also, Commodore is doing something interesting - he keeps unloading knights in my territory, near SWAT, and seems to be ramping up for an attack on cornflakes. Unless he's going to attack me, which would be kind of weird.

I have 3 unis being built - I may just whip them in next turn - I'm pretty worried about looking like the big guy on the block without actually being that strong.

I have 1 theater being built and I can 1 turn another in V.


Another GP next turn - I can maybe kick off a GA with it, if I want. If I do, i'll probably time it so I can get oxford and globe built and then maybe switch to nationhood and start drafting grenadiers.

I'm thinking of offering marble for stone to TT/Bigger again - 51 hpt gets me Oxford in 8, as opposed to 12, and in GA. That probably means bigger gets another wonder (Parthenon?) or two, but that's the price to pay, sometimes.

I think the plan has to be:

1) Get Oxford and Shakespeare up.
2) Upgrade cats to cannons.
3) Upgrade some archers/xbows to grenadiers.
4) Switch to nationhood and start the drafting.
5) Put Jowy out of his misery

How long that takes is pretty heavily dependent on what sort of GP I get.

btw - looks like Jowy planted 2 more cities

So, what's my tech path post-Mil Science?

I want:

Steel
Mil Trad
Rep Parts
Rifling
Steam
Railroad

My guess is that I can take out Jowy with cannons and grenadiers. It is now that I really regret using that GG on the galley (that's not a criticism of the move, which we made for good reasons - it just didn't work out, at all - still not sure WHY it didn't work out) - a mil academy in V would kick-ass.

I think tech will be: Hope CF trades me steel and I can trade with 2metra for Mil Trad.
Rep parts->Rifling->Steam->railroad. Rep parts and steam are not all that great on this map - I only have a couple of places where I even theoretically build a levee, and one is surrounded by Jowy's culture. And I just don't have many windmills or watermills.

Communism would be nice with this map - state property would kick some ass.

I do have to pay attention to Commodore researching astronomy - losing collosus will hurt me, as will losing stonehenge, but at some point, I'll have to do it.

I think we might just turn off research for awhile - run 10% espionage, to get a little going there, but just build up cash to upgrade catapults, which are 170 gold to upgrade!! very expensive...

XB->Grenadier is only 110 gold...

so, some thoughts:

My cap is currently making 92 commerce, before bureau bonus. that means 138 base commerce.

I am not sure what nationhood will save me in civics cost, but moving out of bureau will cost me 46 commerce or 90+ overall gold/beakers, which is a ton - I doubt anyone else has a cap near that.

On the other hand, being able to draft is pretty huge.

ack. I think I screwed up - I had offered Constitution and 400 gold for steel, but I forgot when I played this morning, and I upgraded several xbows to grens and I don't think I have 400 gold left. Presumably, the game will just take the gold off the table? I can't imagine it will let me go negative in balance, will it? I have shut off research, so if it does, I'll be fine by next turn.

I really have no idea what offer CF will get next turn...
