Huh, a shitload of thread activity here: wonder race, or planned attack?

On the plus side, as Spi you wanted Monotheism soon anyway right?
If only you and me and dead people know hex, then only deaf people know hex.
I write RPG adventures, and blog about it, check it out.
Yeah, that's why I went polytheism instead of meditation, apparently WilliamLP had the same thought. I'll probably get Confucianism and that at least comes with a free missionary. I was just looking forward to ignoring CoL for a little bit and heading to math/HBR, but with no religion I think CoL needs to be my next tech after priesthood. I guess it's just the culmination of making that stupid move with the warrior+bad luck+a different civ game where I just got attacked that's putting me in a shitty mode. And of course, it was that bad barb luck which delayed my eta on polytheism by two turns to lose the religion. Ironically, this is what I was planning to do to Sisu earlier; I am effectively demoralized.
P.S. Commodore, don't take offense at my bitching about the map. I'm sure it's all fair enough, etc, but it really is an effective scapegoat when I'm feeling down about the game.
Hah, no problem, if it bugged me I'd have quit long, long ago. You seem to be doing fine; you are in charge of a civ that blossoms late and a leader that shines late.

I imagine that's hard to say right now given cities/cottages will grown and be planted. Sorry for the other post,...I have to keep reminding myself that COL will actually help to make us safer and that our C1 axes can get odds on Shock Praets with fortify and 20% culture. As for the demoralizing effect of missing the religion,....I think that that's an side-effect of you playing, and expecting to win. Its good to be strategic and have high standards for yourself,...but there can be only one. And it probably has at least as much to do with how the game develops rather than the plays that you can control. Even Sulla and Speaker lost their last 2 games despite overall excellent game play (lack of CV detection notwithstanding). I suspect that they took their losses harder than most other players because of their expectation of winning. Hopefully this is not unwelcome advice, but if you could 'play to play' while thinking how to win rather than 'playing to win' you'd probably find greater enjoyment in this game. For all we know one of the greens on the other side of the world is going to go total builder and get walked over with ease resulting in some civ out there with 2-3X our land. We'll almost certainly lose in that situation and we shouldn't get too disappointed about it.
Yeah, I have discovered lately that playing to win without expecting to win is key (for me at least) to having a game that is at once fun, challenging, and stress-free. I sympathize greatly with your frustration. Have hope, though; this is not going to cost you the game, not by a long shot.
Sorry guys, was in a bad mood. It turns out it's not as bad as I thought, though it's still pretty annoying. Molach moving his warrior there further delayed my micro because I couldn't mine the gold that turn. And the barbarian came at the perfect time so I couldn't cover the gold mine. However, Molach moved away and the barbarian didn't pillage the corn, so it isn't that bad. We're going to get a couple axes over the course of the next couple turns, so we'll be back in business. Without the gold, our capital has to starve a little to one turn an axe instead of working the rice as well.
Now the bad news: AGG Rome is our neighbor However, it looks like the land to the north is a lot juicer, so hopefully he'll prat rush that away. Or maybe not prat rush at all. Fourth city founded next turn, 5th city a couple of turns after that. Again, 9-10 cities by turn 100 is about where we're heading. I'm feeling a little more optimistic about the game |
