Why does avoiding map trades make a difference at this point?
[SPOILERS] Lewger goes for the Bigwyn

ok, so this is interesting. commodore makes 720ish gold at 0% in his golden age. we make 763 at max tax, NOT in a golden age. so at least on the gold side, we have surpassed him economically. (of course, he has universities and observatories, so he may still be ahead of us with research turned on). we're still building banks and grocers too . of course he is ahead of us on beakers still, thanks to the lib slingshot and having a greater economy than us for quite awhile.
my point, though, is that he has fell well behind Serdoa and Plako. he's also stuck in a 2 sided war with slowcheetah and scooter, and losing atm to slowcheetah. I don't think he can win anymore. Slowcheetah is also pretty far behind. for some reason he saved up 5,000 cash before turning his research on. especially terrible as he didn't research printing press until turning it back on, and he's still missing some basic techs. I think he overemphasized hammers early on when he really didn't have to worry about being invaded by anyone. This is good because I don't think either is going to be motivated to invade us to stop our CV. Then there's this: Plako stole a nice city from commodore here. i was eying it when I still thought we would get Azza's island cities. I think Commodore messed up not getting a settler here sooner. I think commodore is especially vulnerable right now, Plako or Serdoa could decide to pile on at any time. so I think, if we don't pull out a CV, the game is going to come down to a race between serdoa and Plako (I guess for space ships, I don't see either of them pulling in domination, too much too conquer). These are also the only 2 civs that could realistically start the assault needed to capture one of our culture cities. I guess thats inconvenient and convenient at the same time - we'll put them into a prisoners dilemna, if one invades us we'll make it painful enough that he'll lose to the other one. Hopefully neither is willing to make the first move until its too late, hehe. Anyway, thanks to culture and east indiamen we'll be able to see it coming from either one. If Plako wants to invade us, I would expect him to start by taking forlorn hopes and maybe a few other former azza cities from commodore, then moving onto us. so thats something to keep an eye on.

I think its possible Plako will go after slowcheetah. He was moving those frigates and galleons towards their border.

Is it possible no one knows what you're up to?

I think everyone knows what we're up to. serdoa certainly does, his buddhist shrine must be off the charts. xenu wished me good luck in game. If xenu knows, they all know. but we will benefit from the game being no diplo here - they know they have some time, and each will wish someone else deals with us, hehe. I haven't seen a large force there though. I have an east indiaman on the plako/cheetah border, and another one on plako's east border, near azza's former islands and near us. I haven't seen a large navy on either (just some random frigates). if that is his plan, I would expect him to act soon. I wouldnt be surprised to see plako pick a side and declare on either slowcheetah or commodre soon.

I think I turn this down, no? he's in state property now, no longer mercantilism, so it could be partially economically motivated. but im just thinking he realized we can scout him out with east indiamen, open borders or no, so he wants to level the playing field so he can scout us out. am I being paranoid? I think im refusing here, but might be inclined to re-offer if anyone disagrees. edit: serdoa has open borders with plako, Pindicator, and slowcheetah, but not with xenu or commodore.

Lewwyn, I'm not really sure if I should get open borders with Serdoa or not. it would help economically, we've been at peace for a long time now and I have lots of trade routes w/ all the castles we've built. What do you think?
