Alright, here's the worldbuilder file for anyone who wants to look around in detail. I'll post pictures and philosophy soon.

General goals:
Interesting landform Mirrored capitals Reasonable access to all the strategics: copper, iron, horse, mithril, reagents, incense Even access to the health and happy resources Similar general land quality and share. I'm confident I have the mirrored capitals and resources worked out, and I think the landform is interesting, too. I'm less sure I have the general land quality even; this is where I really want most feedback. Since they wanted lairs on but guarded, I gave each player 2 barrows guarded by Held Wraiths, a ruins guarded by Held Heroic Defense II lizardmen, and 2 goblin forts on hills, defended by Held Goblin Archers. And a bear den, not guarded, but I think that those don't give prizes when disturbed. They wanted huts on; I ended up hand placing four huts/player; one close to each player, and three further but in areas probably theirs.

In all cases, the starting settler is on the Copper tile.

Those are going to be very slow starts techwise.
Some more rivers and some Wines/andor some Calendar resources near the capitals would help a lot. ![]()

They do have those starting shades - but I suppose that's a sign of their preferences, not just a compensation for mine. I'll probably add both a couple wines to the area and give everyone another river.

A bit of happy and some more commerce is always nice.
Also, you may want to consider not having everyone settle on their grassland copper. The players may be a bit unhappy to discover that they have "settled in place like the mapmaker intended" on top of a 6 foodhammer yield tile that gives 0 boost to the city. Shift the copper a bit, and give them a PH to settle on. If they're asking for shades, they're not interested in a slow, boring early game. Give 'em something to work with. ![]()

That's straight forward. Wines...maybe I'll give them BFC gold, too.
But you don't see any issues with the overall land distribution and quality? Just want some more river and a stronger capital?

I haven't looked at the map in detail, just looked over the start locations. But from the look of your screenshots, I think it's ok land distributin wise.
If you're going for gold at the cap, I'd swap the expansion city golds for Gems to give some variety in happy types. One or two of the "lesser" calendar resources nearby wouldn't go amiss. Reagents for the cap and a cotton or sugar for an expansion city?
