email from sunrise ...
Quote:Greetings Ruff,
I was happy to see our fine civilizations have met. Have you met everyone else? If not, I can give you directions to those civs I know. I've still not met Imhotep, dsplaisted, or mostly_harmless...I'm sadly quite behind in scouting as well as many other aspects of civ.
Other than that...any good tales? I have only a sad one of falling victim to a successful worker steal, but I assume with two wars under your belt you've seen some glorious action...

We are the Borg. Resistance is futile. Your culture will adapt to service ours. We will add your biological and technological distinctiveness to our own.
Sorry - everyone gets that greeting ... sometimes more than twice . I have met everyone but thanks for the offer. I can provide you directions if you so desire. I did hear that you lost a worker and I have managed to assimilate two workers from Species #4 (you probably heard about that). Imhotep and I also had a little border spat.
My drone is currently heading West - is the path open or do I need OBs with you?
Cheers,
Ruff

further emails from regoarrarr ...
Quote:Ruff,
I wouldn't call it a cartel. We did have a tech trading agreement involving Alphabet which was consummated last turn (T77). I am allowed to trade outside of this "cartel" and would be happy to discuss ways to make that happen.
As for the Praets, who are close to you?
dan.

Quote:Close to me ...
Imhotep (North)
mh / Kodii (South)
Broker (further South - probably too far away)
Dsp (South West)
Is your cartel (I just like the word ) organizing another round of
tech trades?
Ruff
Quote:Ruff,
So wouldn't that make Krill to your northeast? I know that he is somewhat to the east of Imhotep, but am fairly unclear on the distances involved. Where are your Praets now? I know (think?) that they were near Imhotep a few turns ago but am not sure where you have moved that since then.
But let's assume that a) we could find a suitable target and b) we could figure out a suitable payment. How would it work?
What I mean by that is obviously you have a wide range of latitude in determining how... aggressive? you are with your forces. You could declare war but only half heartedly attempt to harass the person, or you could go whole hog and really knock them around. I don't know what the best way would be to arrange things. Maybe some sort of upfront payment as well as some sort of additional payment per city taken / unit killed / worker stolen? I don't know how we would best "prove" that stuff though.
Do you have any thoughts on that? As for another round, we have had some discussions about another round but nothing set in concrete. What are you teching right now?
dan.

Quote:Dan,
I think an up-front payment followed by city taken incentives would be
best (easy to verify).
I am currently saving $ for a few rounds - next tech is unclear at present.
So - are you saying that your tech cartel is falling apart? If so, do
you have any idea how it will fracture?
Ruff
Quote:Yeah that makes sense. Though I was talking with another civ last night who is having some military trouble / conflict with another civ (names hidden to protect the innocent), and he said to offer you all of our techs if you would eliminate this other civ.
Of course that was before you snagged 7 techs overnight so maybe that's not as attractive.
I wouldn't say that our tech "cartel" is falling apart. But certainly given that (almost) everyone else has caught up (nearly), I'd say there are certainly opportunities for mutually beneficial trades. I am currently researching currency

Quote:Oh really - so, Civ A wants you to ask me to put the squeeze on Civ B
- interesting. Is Civ B anywhere near me? Or are you talking about
me walking half way round the world to do the dirty work?
Ruff
Quote:Well, it's more that Civ B has kind of been threatening Civ A, and Civ A would be interested in them getting a bit of their own medicine. But yeah, more or less.
I think that they're not that close to you but not that far away either. If this is something that you're interested in, we could talk details.
Quote:let me take a stab at A and B ...
B - Krill
A - the Lins
Quote:You're close. Civ B is Krill, and I'm sure the Lins would feel the same way as Civ A (Sunrise).
But maybe this is just a pipe dream. It's not something that's likely to be feasible, even if you were so inclined? I just kind of thought it might be something fun and entertaining to do.

Quote:Hey Ruff,
I wanted to clarify what I said yesterday about sunrise / the Lins. Neither of them asked me to ask you to attack Krill - that was all me (and even I wasn't doing it very seriously). I don't know what your relationship is with Krill - for all I know, you guys are best buds and you went and shared with him everything I said.
I believe Krill has a NAP with both of them, and I would not want him using what I told you as an excuse (Gunpowder anyone?) to cancel it.
Does that make sense?
dan.

Don't worry - I haven't shared our discussion with anyone ... just had fun trying to guess A and B.

I think 'stringing him along' is the summary of this email exchange. I was hoping that he would suggest that I attack someone that I am already eyeing off ... and then he can pay me to start a war that I was already planning on starting. Unfortunately, no dice on that one .

The Alliance (also referred to as NUTA) is talking about attacking someone in the UTA to slow down their tech rate. The only problem is that everyone wants me to do it.
Here is the current map as I know it ...
The closest target is Broker but that would just release a bunch of land to ZPV. The other option is Rego.
I circulated the following:
Quote:I've looked at the map, and the closest target (UTA only <grin>) to me is Broker. The only downside here is that if I managed to take / destroy his cities, it would just release a bunch of land to ZPV (unless mh/Kodii were going to go down and grab it).
Another option is Regoarrarr. From my view, it looks like he shares land with Shady. My concern here is that if we remove him, it might just free up land for Sunrise. Do Rego and Sunrise share land or are they separated by water?
Maybe Rego will make the better target. I can send some Preats, pick up some Imps from Imhotep and then some Immortals from Shady. Maybe Dsp can throw in some Skirms and we can have a tonne of fun with those units. Krill could throw in some workers to provide road transportation.

sooooo Wrote:What about the Lins? Are you talking about the 'Lin?' on the map - if so, that is because I don't know where they are and I am positioning them based on comments from others.
Or are you talking about them being a possible target? If so, (based on my map info) then that would just free up land for sunrise and Krill (who already has 9 cities). Also, I am pretty sure that there isn't a land bridge between my East and the Lin's west based on some comments by Krill.

I was asking about potential to attack them, based on your map.
Every attack frees up space for another civ though. But if you attack someone close to you then at least you could keep a few cities.

I just played my turn and I popped Iron! Iron at a mine that had been finished ... oh ... about 2 turns ago! Why couldn't I pop gold, silver or gems? BTW - has anyone seen any gold, silver or gems? (Don't answer that). Not that I am too unhappy about popping Iron ... it's just that gold would have been sooooo much better.
Edit: Oh and I found the League of Lins - well, a city anyway - with my exploring warrior W of Sunrise ... basically directly below one of Krill's 'L's.

Got a very flat email from Imhotep ...
Quote:I can throw some Impis, a stack up to 15 might be possible in 6 or 7 turns. Just tell me if I should do so. regoarrarr is quite far away from me though, I guess we might be quicker if we come from the south through shady's land. From me there are about 20 tiles between my border and regoarrar's - and a slow stack without roads needs a lot of turns to come there (well, basically up to 30). Problem down south is that there are a lot of scouts running around there, so we have to be extra careful there - or it might not work at all. Of course we could also fake an attack on shadyforce with that, I don't know...
Imhotep
P.S.: I meant to write a much longer answer, but i find the game has lost its charm for me. Still I will try my best of course, but I can't help feeling disappointed.
The first part is about us trying to set up an attack on the UTA. I'm reaching out to him to see what he is flat about.

Gee - nagged by the peanut gallery! So, you want an update? I'll even give it to you in strine ...
Well, my Borg game went by the way ... the original plan for this game was to be a seek & destroy mission. Starting next to mh & kodii (the wonder boys) was a good start but Krill turned up with news of a 5-way tech dealing monster and this pushed us all into a 6-headed hydra. Not what I had intended, but them is the breaks.
I had talked to regoarrarr about joining their crew and starting to bash heads over here but a reload, a rethink and the Borg were no more. I've reverted to playing a dull, slow growing game. In fact, it should be a quick growing game because I have fallen behind everyone else.
I have my elephants hooked up with wines and sugar coming soon - this will mean a much improved happy cap. I don't have enough workers so I have started to chop and whip some out and then I will be pushing on throw down some cities between myself and Krill. I think I have lots of room to expand so while everyone else is gearing up for war, I am hoping to catch up on the city count.
Now for some strine ... what does air-fridge mean? It is the number you get when you sum a series of numbers and divide the total by the count of those numbers.
I'll post an overview pic shortly - my turn for the PBEM game just came in.
