When do you want to research MC? I can see skipping Monarchy/IW and if we wanted to, even Fishing/Sailing. We're going to need Construction though and Currency is an absolute must.
You mean the road connecting us to Gavagai? That can wait untill just before the war starts imo.
MC? Well, after Currency then? I think it will be extremely usefull... Redemption will be a production monster! Especially once we get a religion and OR going there.

Not entirely convinced we should wait to finish the road but we do need that settler for The Rock. I'll send one worker over to Waterdeep immediately.
MC (scientist beakers)->Construction (100% science)->Currency->finish MC? The only question is do we want to get Fishing/Sailing before passively researching MC. Don't see us building any LHs during war prep. Do we have time to settle the island with the clams? Once Rohan has its tiles improved, we could probably get out a settler from there which would leave Redemption to build a galley. Your call on whether we go Fishing/Sailing next.

Yeah, lets get fishing/sailing first. Cheap techs and we need them.
I'd like us to have 1 worker at least with the army for road building.
Therefore I think we can leave the road unfinished.

Sounds like a good plan to me! That way we can declare, finish the road, and move our army next to his city on T1.
Hopefully without him expecting.
How many units do you think we need?

How many units do you think we need? ~20+ Probably 5-8 cats, 8-10 axes, rest WCs. The worse thing that could happen is for the war to not be swift and decisive. We want to take out his copper immediately (we don't want him building spears) so we will actually need a main stack and a WC mini stack (pillage copper and roads to impede troop movement). We'll need to do build queue tricks to mask our power build up although we won't be able to hide all of it.

Really long turn (actually had to log back in twice to check things). I'll start with the demos...
The power graph...
What can I say? Never said I was a C&D expert (at least I better not have ). Nearest I can tell, and after looking to see what techs Gavagai had when he landed the Oracle, he has a barracks and axe on us (5 to our 4) plus MC, although he might have gone an unconventional route and grabbed Math (maybe even Aesthetics). I am pretty sure he finished Writing the same turn he completed the Oracle. Before Gandhi moved...
So Gavagai moved the axe up (heading to D-V no doubt).
The axe completes EOT 75 with 30 OF into the settler which will be 2 pop whipped T77. Probably have time for ~1-2 axes before the horses are hooked up and we can build WCs. Went ahead and finished the road on the FP N of Wall St. to avoid wasting a worker turn...
Gavagai is obviously paying close attention. There is an arms race between us and him (the #2 and #1 military powers in the world). We're going to have to make sure we hide the WCs so he continues building axes. I'm sure he'll get spears eventually, but as long as we keep research visibility, and don't show our hand, we shouldn't have to face that many. The main danger is if he did Oracle Math, he probably beats us to Construction.

Do you know how to use gnp sluething to determine rival known techs?
By the way, I'm just about unspoiled here... at least in the last month I'm only reading your thread. Keep up the great reporting.

I know you get a research bonus if the tech you are researching has been researched already by someone you have contact with (per civ bonus, iirc, but don't remember the formula). I know certain techs give you soldier points (so a 10K jump in soldier points early can often times mean IW has been researched). Other than that, not sure how you would figure it out.
Thanks. I try my best to make the thread interesting.
