Rant Thread!

See, I don't want to be the guy who sits around making obnoxious comments all the time. I've seen what's going on, I would have done some things differently, but Noble has his own plan, and I think we'll do better to let him follow it. Sure, if I think I see something major that we could be doing differently, I'll be happy to suggest it. But nitpick all the individual unit moves or city builds? That should be left up to the turnplayer, in my opinion.

I did find it very amusing how some of the exact same people who were critical of my leadership, and implied that I was a dictator that shot down other opinions, couldn't even make it one week without responding to their critics in the same fashion. Guess what, it sucks to be the one running the turns. It's a thankless job, and dealing with the commenters will drive you insane over time. I felt that there was little appreciation for the amount of work that I was putting into this game, and wanted to let others try their hand at running things, since so many were so eager to get me out of the captain's chair. Noble, scooter, and sunrise are doing fine, but you certainly notice a difference when the turnplayer isn't sinking 90 minutes into a turn report every few days.

If I have any advice, it's that we don't need so many catapults (seriously, we do not need 50 cats here) and we should be getting castles in any city along the border immediately.

36 cats sounds about right to me. The next wave can be units, especially knights

Catapults are the only thing we can build right now that won't shortly go obsolete. Muskets and knights aren't useful after the advent of rifles. And we can get muskets cheaper by drafting. 50 catapults doesn't exactly make a good defense, but neither does anything else we can produce until rifles or cannons.

So far the "too many cats" comments have never been backed up by anything. If you want your comment to be taken seriously, you do need... something useful to suggest. Build what instead? Previously we were building Courthouses, which is much worse. What would you build instead? What unit mix would you use?

We have done estimates on the number of Rifles we'll face, and we've estimated how many cats it'll take to lower them into a range where we can kill them. It will take a lot if we're facing the 30-40 Rifles that seem likely. The alternative is we suicide Muskets into the rifles instead for reasons I can't figure out. If we're going to suicide something, I'll take the suicide unit that is A) much cheaper and B) going to do collateral damage. The only way to win a battle in which you have a tech disadvantage is to bring so much collateral that you can use collateral to wipe out the tech advantage and then do the killing.

What about pinch knights? Only one of our neighbors is bringing rifles to the party. Everyone else would be bringing muskets. Pinch and I guess knights with flanking to remove catapults. I'm not sure about the walls and castles, that'll only work on CP right?
