Real-Time Game Tweaker

I just checked, and indeed with the 24-bit version of your image the colors are not mangled.
I'll make a note to convert images with a palette automatically.

Well, as long as I know, it's trivial to turn them into 24 bit (confirmed: it works now).

Tweaker version 0.2.7 is out!

You can find it in the usual location on sourceforge (when it refreshes, since it currently still shows the previous version):
https://sourceforge.net/projects/momrtgt/

Changes:
  • Save/restore bookmark during battle (on battle map) [FrancoK].
This works during the same battle.
To restore a battle bookmark after leaving the game, first restore
a save game from before the battle, enter battle again, and then
you can restore the bookmark. (Ticket 25.)

  • More tables (click Show tables):
    - Item powers from itempow.lbx (new).
    - Prefab item data from itemdata.lbx (new).
    - Many other tables whose data was already editable in the tree view.

  • Lbx editor (click Tools, then click Lbx editor):
    - loads any lbx file and shows its contents
    - use the proper palette for all pictures
    - as yet it can only replace pictures and sequences of pictures.

  • Drag & drop on the overland map and the battle map:
    - Either moves a stack of units.
    - Or simulates combat and shows the result in a message box.
However, it's mostly raw melee now with static specials and enchantments.
Shooting is not taken into account yet, nor all possible spells
    and special effects.

  • Combat simulator added.

  • Save and restore all dialog positions, sizes, check boxes, column widths,
    directories, and combo boxes.

  • Track created item location in the "MEM:Game Data" section.

First, let me say a giant "thank you" for all the hard work you've done - I was thrilled to see the editor.

I am experiencing some issues using it (Win 7, 64 bit OS, "n" version of Insecticide).

First, quite a few terrain editing options are missing. For example, my only choices under Terrain Type (first one) are 1 for grassland, 0 for ocean, 2 for shore... everything else shows as unknown (and generally ends up being ocean).

There also seems to be no way to add wild game (or to restore wild game if you change it by mistake).

The map just shows in the editor as a big pink blob (not sure if that's the 24 bit issue you were talking about earlier, but I have no clue how to change it to 24 bit if that's the problem!). I can still click on the map and change features, but it's always trial and error to hit the right spot on the blob (and I have to find the right spot anew every time, since it doesn't "light up" on the blob once selected).

Finally - and this is my biggest request - is there a text file anywhere (or a menu accessible from within the program) that lists all the options for each field? I'm just figuring things out by trial and error (e.g. what the 10 options are for Terrain Bonus); some of the numbers (e.g. spells) are in the "show tables" view, but some are missing (like terrain types, bonuses, etc...).

Thanks again!

Hi Zamboni! Welcome to RB! smile

Thanks for you kind words.

Let me start by saying that if the editor shows up as a big pink blob, you probably don't have the latest version yet.
Did you download 0.2.7?
It does work seamlessly on Win7, 64 bit with insecticide 1.40n, which is also what I'm currently using.

The tweaker does support all the terrain tiles. If you get ocean, that just because you entered the number of an ocean tile.
There is a whole sequence of grassland tiles.
If you right click the TerrainType, you'll see 4 grasslands tiles with a picture that you can select: grasslands0, grasslands1, grasslands2, and grasslands3.
Actually grasslands2 and grasslands3, that are next to each other, represent a whole range of grasslands.
You can pick another one by entering a number, although it will give you the text "unknown", it is still grassland and will show up as such.
Somewhere there is a bitmap with a list of all the terrain tiles. If you want I can see if I can find it again an upload it.

You can add and remove wild game. Right click the TerrainBonus field and you can simply check or uncheck it.

If the map shows up as a blob (actually a pinkish grid now), that means the game is in a state where the map is not accessible.
That happens for instance if you're looking at the overland map while you're in combat (or the other way around).
That, or you have the relevant check boxes unchecked, making the background "shine through".
So no, that's not the 24bit issue that only applied to the LBX editor (different feature).

In the newest version (0.2.7), clicking with the right mouse button in the "Feature" section, shows all possibities.
That you're asking for it confirms to me that you do not have the latest version.

Btw, if you start using it and give me some feedback, I will improve it and make it more user friendly.

Ahh! I hadn't been right clicking - now I see those menus, which is great!

I'm definitely running 0.2.7 and still see a pink grid for the map (in the game itself I'm just at the general map view). I've tried checking and unchecking various boxes in the map view, but it doesn't seem to make any difference (except when I uncheck "explored only", but that just changes how much is pink and how much is black).

Is there another place to change settings?

Thanks!

There is no other place to change settings.

So let's see if we can figure this out.

In the directory of the Tweaker there will be a file named "cout_cerr.log".
Can you show me its contents?

It may be that the pictures of the game could not get loaded.
To verify, can you tell me whether you have the building pictures?
That is, if you look at the main screen of the Tweaker, you should see a tree view.
The second node is Buildings.
If you click it open, you should see the pictures of all the buildings.
This is assuming you have checked Update tree view and Use icons.
Do you see the building pictures?

Can you give me more details?
For instance, did you connect to a game or did you load a save file?
Do other features work properly? Or do you have more problems?

There are no pictures under buildings (or elsewhere, actually).

At the bottom of the main screen I have "update tree view" and "use icons" both clicked.

Maybe the problem is where I installed Tweaker - it's just on a folder on my desktop. Should it be in the MoM folder? The main one? A subfolder? I can modify the game from where it currently is, I just seem to be missing some features.

There are definitely issues loading files (and it does indeed look like it's the location that's the problem):

Blah.. moved it into the main MoM folder, still no pictures. Also, the "save" button isn't usable (it never has been, before or after the move).

The folder where you have the Tweaker won't matter.
No, the problem is that the Tweaker tries to deduce what the folder of your connected MoM game is.
It turns out that it fails.

So what would work, is if you load a save game instead of connecting to a game.
Then the location of MoM is deduced from the location of the save game.
Can you verify that?

It looks like your DOSBox is working slightly different from mine.
Can you tell me how you configured DOSBox?
What is the directory location of MoM?
And what is the command line use to start MoM?
