If this was full diplo, I would be feeling a lot more confident, the main problem is that I need a period of consolidation and reconstruction to rebuild my economy. If I could sign a 50-turn NAP with Suttree, I could rebuild my economy, research feudalism and whip out enough g2 longbows to keep myself safe until rifles.

In PB2, Plako's skill level was far greater than Whosit's, but so far Suttree has exhibited very good economic skills. His tactical skills leave something to be desired(he's wandered his stack in my territory for 5 turns, paying huge maintenance and I'm 1 turn away from killing it). We'll have to see, but if I can wipe out his stack, I may have enough force to counterattack into his territory.

Oh, and Commodore, why did you place silver and marble without any food resources??? cry

Ok, here's the tactical situation:

Or, in text form

Suttree's Main Stack: 4 C1 Axes, 1 C1/Shock Axe, 4 Unpromoted Axes, 2 C1 Spear, 1 Unpromoted Spear
Suttree's Mounted Stack: 2 Unpromoted Chariots
Nonviolence Garrison: 4 C1 Axes, 3 Unpromoted Axes, 1 C1/Shock Axe, 2 C1 Spear, 1 Unpromoted Spear, 2 G1 Archers, 1 Unpromoted Archer
Peace-loving Current Garrison: 1 C1 Chariot, 2 Unpromoted Chariot
Peace-loving reinforcements: 2 C1 Axe, 3 Unpromoted Axes, 1 C1 Spear

If Suttree moves his stack to the green or red dots, I can wipe it out next turn. If he moves it to the blue, he'll threaten Peace-loving and my units in Nonviolence cannot reach them. But I'm going to flat out beg for stone from both BrickBoldyXenu and Wetbandit/Kurumi. If need be, I'll pay 20 gpt and DOW to break the deal. The worker chopping will instacomplete walls with stone. I can have 5 axes, 1 spear and 3 chariots in the city. He may be able to take it, but at heavy losses. I haven't finished my moves for this turn, I have to do extensive simming, I think I'm going to pull some of the Nonviolence garrison out of the city onto the PH. The city is on a hill, with walls and they would be attacking across a river. I think splitting the garrison could work out, I'm not sure yet.

And here's the crappy land I've discovered to the south. Really Commodore, you're giving me highly valuable resources, but the only way to get them is to settle the worst city ever, which I can't come close to affording right now. And naturally, my scouting chariot ended up right next to a barb axe .

Here's how I want to dot map the island, this at least get's me okish cities, though I'd have to split off one of Pacifism's crabs semi permanently and the purple tile where the peak is would be much better, but there's some more terrible news, Suttree has triremes.

The tactical situation on the southern sea. Go go go ancient era naval arms race rolleye There's no way I can sustain island cities that exposed without naval supremacy.

Here's the city formerly known as Libria, nursing that whip anger. I'll have to whip again next turn if Suttree advances his fleet. Thank god for HR

And the William LP front, enforced peace expires next turn, that garrison he has at least looks defensive. Irenic is on a hill with walls, so it's a tough nut to crack. If he DOWs next turn I can have 2 g1 archers, 1 c1 spear and an upgraded axe in the city. Not great, but I had to pull units away to the Suttree front.

I really want enforced peace with Suttree, I'm going to offer white peace this turn. If he doesn't take it, I'll just wait until I can fully wipe out his stack and then mount a counterattack on Ember(now named Cade's Cove) and then offer white peace. During the enforced peace period, I can pop into caste and produce two GM's in about 14 turns to bulb metal casting and currency while researching construction and horseback riding, that should get my economy back on track and keep my military up to par.

Thank-you for that detailed report!

I think I'm going to move 7 of the axes out of nonviolence onto the plains hill

Am I crazy? Maybe, but combat sims back me up. In 20 different assualts, Suttree never takes the city and often doesn't kill a single unit

Dammit, Kurumi/Wetbandit played their turn during Suttree's half of the turn split so I couldn't offer them stone. Would it be kosher to PM them asking them to log in to accept the offer? Probably not...

Peace at last!

Suttree accepted my offer of white peace this last turn. Hopefully we can maintain peace, I don't think the war was very productive for either of us. Here's the total casualties for both sides:

Suttree- 1 City, 1 Axe, 1 Chariot, A lot of unit maintenance
Myself- 1 Worker, 1 Galley, 1 Axe, 1 Mine(pillaged), 1 Hamlet(pillaged)

So I came out ahead hammer wise, and I think paying huge unit support wrecked Suttree's economy more than my mass whipping wrecked mine. Still, after offering peace he proposed this

smoke

Yeah sure, I'll give you my front city for 100 gold and 10 turns of a luxury along with open borders I don't need

I don't think Suttree understands how vital Nonviolence is to me as a strategic hard-point. On a hill, with walls and a flatland killing ground right in front of it, the city is a veritable fort. If I lose that city, I basically cede all the land between it and my capital, which is a major, major deal. I'd go as far as to say that would be the first step step on the slippery slope to my elimination from this game.

I'm about to place my first settle on the iceball landmass, something that was majorly delayed by the first French war and the Arabian war. The city redeems the other wise wasted grassland copper and picks up the decent 3/2/1 sheep tile. Besides that, the city holds a lot of value as a naval base on the southern sea, sheltering my core from naval strikes and pillaging. It's annoying that it just misses that crab tile, but I valued strategic utility over quality here. In an ideal world, Moai will go here one day. The city can make 12 hpt pretty easily which multiplies to 30 hpt into Moai with stone+OR+forge, that's about an 8 turn build, less if I can get away with not chopping that forest.

In other news, I've been a little worried about Molach, so I'm taking advantage of enforced peace with Suttree to shift some units to the western front.

The western front. The marked tile is where my defense stack will go, This let's me shift units into Irenic or Tranquility in just 2 turns. I'm not sure how much sense it would make for Molach to attack me; his suppy lines would be stretched pretty thin and there are softer targets than me. Still, better safe than sorry. I'll have about 10 axes on the western front.

Here's Harmony, or the worst second city you've ever seen. In my defense, I've had to undergo A LOT of emergency whips here and because they were emergencies I never got around to getting a granary in here. Also, during my last time in caste, I filled the GP counter up with GM points, which further retarded growth. The city grows to 19 / 28 food next turn, then I'll flip into caste and starve the city down to 1 / 28 while working 4 merchants and then work 3 merchants and the corn for 2 turns to produce a quick GM. That GM will bulb currency, a little suboptimal, but Currency is currently 11 turns at break even and I need those trade routes now, look at that juicy 3c trade route with BGN's island city. If nobody attacks me for another 12 turns, I can produce another GM out of Pacifism to bulb Metal Casting.

I'm sure all the lurker's know this, but Suttree bombed a city a couple of turns ago. Unless he's going for a foolhardy CV, my guess is that Sisub is in trouble. Well onto horseback riding after construction for me.

My chariot who razed Suttree's city discovered something interesting in the south. If he DOWs in 10 turns, I might have a surprise for him smile
