Yes - I very much agree about the wheat city - it needs to be 1E. You are right about the trade route; it is worth a great deal I think. Scrap the C NE of the sheep. Found wheat first.

The initial reasoning was that a city sharing the corn was the ideal second city and things evolved from that. The commerce and a less dense dotmap is better.
What am I supposed to do with the scout? I read about people exploring, but the scout seems to die in only a few turns. This happens to me in SP too.
If it stays at home, at least it can spot spiders for stretchy cities (say gold city) and maybe get some exp killing barbs......
I'm not sure what to do with the scout honestly, but I lean toward scouting. There's a high likelihood he dies, but getting contact with people is reasonably difficult in FFH and the scout has a better chance of doing so when there are just animals around. Also, he's only S2, not that useful staying at home, might even cost maintenance. A warrior is almost as good at spotting spiders really, either will probably get killed the turn they show up.

There's not much to post here until my capital maxes out - early game micro in FFH2 is rather boring, I think. The only twist was prioritizing the Silk so I can grow to size 6 ASAP and timing the second warrior so it doesn't stagnate. We had our first event this turn ("it's a good month for diplomacy" or something like that).
Oh - and I decided to be a tool and ignore TBS's advice. I don't start paying maintenance until I have 9 units, so I'll use the scout as militia instead of exploring. 16h is 16h and it seems a shame to waste it revealing a few tiles I don't really need revealed - though maybe I just had horrible luck in my test games?
What units do you have at the cap?

Everything (arranged to cover cap and improvements) the argument being that I can build fewer warriors later on as I expand and instead dump more hammers in to buildings. The scout will serve as mobile defense (insurance against a bad dice roll) and as part of short range scouting parties. Prioritize KoE and make contacts then. We'll see how it plays out - maybe the exploration gamble is worth it. It's only 16h, I guess.
I'll have 4 warriors total and one scout once the settlers start coming, which seems like too many. But I'll have some peace of mind and maybe build fewer warriors later or accumulate more exp attacking barbs who camp my farms/plantations. |
