Then I reserve the right to disown you in case of failure. wink

You're right about the early game in FFH I think. Though the starting shade people seem to use here makes things a bit more interesting and Expansive civs also have a few more options.

WE NOW RETURN TO YOUR REGULARLY SCHEDULED PROGRAMMING, YAY!

It is turn 30, I just finished researching Mysticism. A perfect 10T settler finishes in 4T when I will revolt to God King. Demos over time suggest that my start is near tops in beaker output, so that's good. After revolt I will build a quick 2T Elder Council and run a sage in Cevedes for an academy and super-mega beakers. 11T later finish the gold city settler.

QUESTION: How much gold should I stockpile for an "event fund" after God King comes in?

TOO MUCH WAITING. A game that puts so much emphasis on vertical growth is difficult to play in MP - has anyone considered playing an "advanced start" variant where each player writes a 30T micro plan and the map maker blasts through the first month of play before the game starts?

I built a sim, so I can entertain myself as my mostly vertical strategy plays out - I'll post some sim-screenshots (sim-shots badum csh) over the next week.

Research will be Exploration->Crafting->Mining->WotE
Unoptimized sim without event fund/barbs shows WotE ~t54 at ~55b/t

Yeah its been considered, didn't happen though. Literal advanced starts have, however.
I think events culminate at about 100g, but whether it is worth keeping that much in reserve this early in the game, is another kettle of fish smile

There's an event that allows you to buy various units if you have money, a settler costing 100g. You do have other fairly good options though, can't remember exactly what they are atm. That's the most expensive I think.

There's also the great engineer event which costs 75g to buy a great engineer. 75g was my number in XXVII, but then the Cardith is expansive so the settler wasn't as good value. If you're in the race to some first to bonus you can always blow your event fund anyway(I'd consider that an event wink).

I believe the settler event is very low priority - I've definitely seen the GP/GE events far more.

The barbarian hordes have come cry
OK, just a pair of warriors. I'm sure it will get worse.
I didn't get lucky and win the coinflip first battle (that battle is worth A LOT) but at least I won the second:

Should be able to get the all important shock warrior on the second barb.
Army: 3 warriors (one needs to stay in Cev) and 1 scout. Will build one more to settle third city.
In God King/Religion/Agrarianism.
