Yeah, I've been saving up the reports. I didn't want to do that, but seriously that exam blew so hard.
If anyone has any questions, I'm happy to answer them. About what I'm doing. Or what I think my opponents are doing, what I think I have to do to beat them, anything. I'm aware that I don't do opponent over views but some of hte other players often do them, like scooter, Commodore and Pindicator, so if there is anything that would help people understand how I'm approaching the game I'm happy to try and explain.
What can he do? Right now he is stuck building a settler. He has 1 worker. Even if he has copper at his capital, he would have to wander off with his settler and warrior to settle his new city, mine copper (that he probably needs The Wheel to even connect to his cities) leaving his second city not working a food tile, revolt to slavery and slave out an axe, at which point it's got to move for 5 turns before it can even attack my city. In that length of time I can grow HTB to size 3 and tech archery at the absolute least, and 2v1 his axe. That doesn't consider saving gold, settling for copper and hooking it up, settling for horses and slaving out a chariot or any other strategy.
If he tries to get a small group of axes together? Then I definitely will be able to settle for horses and just kill everything he sends at me on the cheap. If he goes for an archer rush? Beside that 5 turn window that he has to move units, I'm growing pop faster than he is. I'm not worried about what Commodore will try to do, because I feel like I have straight forward answers to pretty much anything save him planting at minimum distance and then trying to drop culture into the city...and if he does that, well, I will drop a stack on him.
Considering the size of the map and the proximity of the other playes like commodote, how many cities - if at all - do you expect to settle beyond the first ring around the capital?
Normally, that would depend on two points (on a map this size, anyway): if I moved my capital, and how tight that first ring was settled. If I hadn't moved my capital, and if the first ring was settled with 3 tiles between cities, then I actually wouldn't expect to get any cities beyond that first ring with the potential exception of a specifically planted front city crammed down someones throat. If I settled CxxC, two tiles between cities, then I might just have gotten in a few more cities if I planted them indiscriminately, but holding onto them, making them productive, I don't think that would be a good idea.
After I moved the capital though, and having settled the first ring city towards Commodore, I should be able to get the full first ring and then a partial second ring to the entire west. But how my settler move propagates through everyone else's new second city spots I don't know. Commodore is the next person to watch out for. Right now I'm figuring out different dot maps, but TBH until I know where horses are I'm just procrastinating. There are about 4 different, viable city locations to settle for my copper with it on the inner ring, and a couple more on the outer ring requiring a culture, and some reaching a bit (they'd be second find cities) and some more difficult to hold than others. if we keep up two turns a day though, I think I'll be able to figure out the dot map by Tuesday Also, the League of Legends world championships have started and the second game is awesome. You can check out this reddit post for links to every VoD of the championship, spoiler free, if anyone is interested.
Was going to guess your next city spot, then realized my follow-up reasoning would have been spoilerish, so I'll post in the lurker thread.
Why did I post this here? Beats me... |
