true...hmm...I could actually swap out dancer for Ranger then, since Dancer would only have 4 possibilities instead of the number of animals the ranger has.

Yeah, think I'll go with that. Plus gives me an extra source of random healing.

So my set up is...

Barbarian
Ranger(Animal Only)
Summoner(Conjure Only)
Geomancer(Element Only)

For Barbarian, Bartz(or Randum in my game) seems to be a good choice, having good STR through the game.
Geomancer I'll give to...Faris due to her second highest magic stat
Lenna, highest magic, will get Summoner.
Leaving Galuf to Ranger.

Sounds good.

SInce Lenna doesn't have any summons yet, I'll just restrict her to using items only until she cna start using Conjure.

Won't it take ~700 ABP to learn Conjure? That's a long time to be using only items.

True. I should have mentioned I just used cheats to open up the class, then just equipped whatever random ability they have.

And late reply, but internet went down shortly after I decided to do the challenge, so had no chance to hop back on.

Why not throw Animals onto a Dancer just to add yet another element of randomness crazyeye?

So I've been messing around with cheat codes later having found this guide to the games various codes. My first thought was to make cheat codes to keep characters 2 - 4 dead and petrified, which worked quite easily, actually-

It petrifies and kills everyone not in the top slot, so no more having to re-kill everyone all of the time!

Just paste this into VBA's "Code" option, in the Cheats menu-

Code:
0200DB44:40
0200DBA8:40
0200DC0C:40
0200DC0C:80
0200DB44:80
0200DBA8:80

And it'll do its thing smile

And then I, of course, had a crazy thought... What other statuses could I lock myself into? How about... a Toad solo? Surely that's insane? Oh wait. But what would such a character be called? It's not like Square Enix have any oth-

Well, that settles it; My next challenge will be... a Frog solo!

[/size][size=xx-small]0200DAE0:20 is the code to turn player 1 into a frog permanently, by the way

Update! Frog gave Wingraptor a good licking (Don't worry, that's the only frog pun I can think of :P) and earned his first jobs, but which could he actually use? Toad is the only spell in the game that's castable as a Frog, so the 3 casters are out. Guard and Steal both work, which'll be helpful at some point, no doubt. Kick didn't work, but Counter attacks did. That make Monk my best chance for Karlabos, me thinks. I stocked up on Potions and then headed off to Torna canal, which doubled up a lovely grinding opportunity; Frog's low damage and 0 defence matter little when the enemies don't attack! I took Frog upto level 15 or so, and learned Chakra in the process.

Which works! This was a major boon for Frog; I could now grind on Bandersnatches by spamming Chakra letting Counter attacks do the work! I intermittently attempted Karlabos between grinding, whilst watching TV.

Thats... Probably enough levels for now. At least his HP stat worked like normal! A few million attempts at Karlabos and he went down; but you expect that when you solo Karlabos. Siren went down after a few attempts; Chakra-ing through her Undead form and attacking her human form wouldn't work. Instead I had to use my one impressive stat; my HP! Chakra through the HUMAN form, then use Potions to deal damage to the Undead form. This out did my tounge damage and won out on the first attempt I tried.

I grabbed the Ice Rod in Carwen; but can Frog use it?

Yep. Well, at least that's Atomos dealt with in the distant future. lol

Magisa and Forza next. My high health meant that even Drain couldn't kill me. But Forza's attack were dealing some ridiculous damage; outpacing my healing even! And on top of that, his defence is too high for me to pierce without a crit. So I came up with a very cheesy idea. Firstly, stall Magisa out of MP by spamming Chakra. There's no way this can go wrong; Drain is the only attack to out damage Chakra's healing, and not by enough to out do all the excess from the rest of his spammery. Then... wait. Magisa attacks at one point in her AI routine, so I just sit there Chakra-ing until counter attacks kill her. What's so special about doing this? Have you read none of my reports? Counter doesn't trigger AI reactions shades No reactions, no Forza. This would have been beautiful, but for some reason Magisa wouldn't let me Counter attack her, just like Exdeath's Tree form. How weird. But without her magic, Forza was out healable, and counter attacks DID take him down, and then Magisa went down after leaving my computer running for lunch, and I claimed the dragon as my prize.

Frog was proving to be surprisingly effective so far; I'm gonna have some fun here crazyeye

Nice. Wonder if Mix works, since as we know that can solve massive chunks of the game all on its own.

See FFX is harder because in order to beat a non-superboss you have to use three uncrippled characters.

Update!

The first stop on getting the dragon, for any FF5-savvy player, is Tycoon Castle. The Healing Staff would be a great help here; if it worked... Which it does! I know the Diamond Bell has a really weird attack formula; I wonder if Frog has any use for it?

Oh. Oh yes. With this little bell, my damage quintuples. And it's back row friendly! This is actually the best news ever. I need a target to invoke my new found wrath.

Shiva; you'll do! I went in as a Freelancer with Counter and Chakra, equipped with my new bell and the Elven mantle. Toad status may reduce the evasion stat to 0, but the Elven mantle doesn't check your evasion, it's a separate, fully functional, modifier. The rough plan was simple. Chakra to delay the damage I was taking (Shiva's Blizzaras dealt ~220, the Commanders attacks dealt ~110, my Chakra healed ~150, so it only slowed them down slightly.) and rely on my ability to get in Counter attacks for the kill. Sadly, this just wouldn't work. Most attempts ended with 2 Commanders down and me attempting to heal with the healing staff, but being frozen between equipping it and attacking myself. For my next attempt, I unequipped the Elven mantle; i want to be hit to trigger counters! This worked quite nicely, I actually had switched over to the healing staff BEFORE the counter attack which killed the final commander triggered, but it still went through okay. I then healed up to full (slightly out pacing Shiva all the way) and then fired off one ring of my bell. Rinse and repeat...

Done. I could have made this a bit easier by stealing a dozen or so Hi Potions from the Blocks in North Mountain, but this was more stylish.

Galura just got damage rushed by my bell, never really stood a chance. I tested out my new water crystal jobs and... Nothing. Berserker was the only class whose abilities functioned and he didn't have any. Ah well, bell ringing it is.

The journey to Karnak was fun, musically shredding everything on the way. A nice change of pace; good job there are hundreds of bells for me to choo- oh wait. The next available bell is the legendary bell in the Sealed Castle. Well, this one'll do for now, hopefully I can use Gaia or something later...

Liquid Flame went down easy; I just Chakra'd against the first form and let my counters kill her. I was never in any danger, and this way I didn't have to bother with all of the different forms. Plus I now the Flame Bow'll do nothing for me and I can buy a Flame Rod in the shop. Throw may or may not work, so I went for the Scroll.

The escape sequence was fun; I had a wierd moment where a Sorcerer untoaded Frog with a Toad spell, and I had to toggle the cheat code to turn him back. I came out with a Ribbon, Guardian and about 4 or 5 Elixirs (I actually had 2 minutes left after the Iron Claw fight, so I went back for more :P)

New jobs; lets have a look... Gaia works. Throw works, but the weapons deal 0 damage. Scrolls work, though. Aaaand Catch works. Damn; nice haul! Since I can throw Scrolls, and later mix, I know this can be finished. For now I was a Geomancer; between my bell and Gaia I was an intense offensive force!

Next up, the library. I was level 28 on entering, so was in no danger. Ifrit was looking to be a perilous fight; I couldn't out heal the ridiculous damage output. I instinctively tried Gaia, forgetting it would heal him...

And it confused him! I had no idea this would work; even Sullla didn't use it in his Geomancer solo! This was great news; with this I can stall out his MP and block his deadliest attack, Fira. Then I can easily out pace his damage with Chakra (from the Geomancers tasty high magic stats this was out healing what the Healing Staff would normally do, at 250 or so a pop!) and whittle him down with my bell.

Damn right, Ifrit. Damn right.

Onto Byblos then; my first thought was to try Gaia, but on the only attempt of about 10 that I reach his Drain stage, it flattened me rapidly, and outpaced me. I don't have the defences for attrition here; I need offence. A Flame Scroll dealt ~1250 damage, an easy 3 hit KO. So should I just go grab another from the Ship Graveyard? Nah, that's too easy! Instead I grinded out Black 1 on the Galuras. With that my magic stat went up from 15 to 41...

That's a bit better. He died to my 2 Flame Scrolls, and the rest of the game was opened up. Bring it on shades

Between Scrolls and Mix, I'm confident I can do this now. Just trying not abuse either :P
