I haven't put any words in your mouth. Pasted the excerpt. How would you interpret that if you were on my side of the conversation other than as a warning that you intend to settle towards me and close me in a corner?

Prior to this enlightening conversation I was going to settle the western tundra last. Your warning moved up my schedule.

Response from Kodi. Really confused by the hostility. I think I will let this drop for awhile.

But my thoughts are

1) They join an alliance with the express purpose of destroying my group
2) Intended to settle close to me and seal off my territory.
3) Never had any agreements and in fact told them where I planned on settling.

Not seeing a lack of integrity or taking advantage of them. We had no agreements at all. I also find it hard to believe they never though of attacking me, maybe not directly but I am sure I came up as a target at some point.

My final response to defend our conversation is that I told you to claim YOUR territory, not ours.

Obviously, you have overlooked our goodwill towards you and taken advantage of us. Now you are only arguing for the sake of arguing to defend your lack of integrity. Next time I will think again before considering a friendly relationship with you.

Question for the lurkers.

I am not understanding the anger from MH/Kodi regarding the advanced city.

Yes it is agressive and yes we have had frendly conversations in the past but never had any agreements.

I didnt hide the fact that I was planning on settling there and it seems I just beat them to the spot. Lins had told me they saw a settler awhile ago with one of thier scouting warriors. Not to mention they planned on doing the exact same thing to me by settling what is currently my farm city.

We are on opposite sides of the political lines.

They are acting like I backstabbed them which I dont believe I have. Never entered into any agreements. Now I didnt speciffically come out and say you are my long term target but that wouldnt be sensable and just get me killed quicker. But it should be obvious I have 2 border them and Lins and it is no secret that the Lins and I are working very close together.

Good thing I didnt get that lightning strike off to raze thier capital. Probably burn my house down.

Anyway I am fairly new around here and wondering if I am off base in my actions or thoughts?

About the fact
If what they said is right (that it is 8tiles from their capital while being 11t from yours, in a more or less straight path and that while sealing your side it will open theirs), it could be easily understood, considering the 'tensions' between your blocks, that they will have trouble accepting a city there.

About the discussions
Well, from a lurker point of view, it seems that no one make any real offer to try to bargain/compromise and both side seems to be quite quick to bring open threats without any softening words...

Well I decided to send an appology if I offended but it is a game after all. Probably just making myself feel better but I sent it anyway. I edited out the personal stuff. I havent heard anything back and really dont expect to. Like I said this is probably just making me feel better.

Ok I was confused about the anger of this response and wanted to wait a few days before responding.

I have had some RL stresses and may have been abit more agressive and abrasive in my tone than I normally would have. Between [something] and the [Something else] made me abit crankier than I usally am.

Now in regard to the game I was not stringing you along nor trying to take advantage of you. I originally intended a peaceful existance but the politics and game situation did not shake out that way. An opportunity arouse for an agressive settlement and I was just negotiating as my civ (little role playing) not as myself.

Anyway, it is a game and I was just playing it as such. I want to appologize if my tone came accross as personal. I did not intend to insult anyone or make things personal.

Reply from Kodi. He is asking I dont settle the spot but with the current situation I dont see how I can afford not to. It puts me in the perfect position to defend my area and to launch attacks in the future.

His axe can create a problem but only for a turn or 2 as I have 10 HA's a turn behind my settler group.

As for the "ridiculous turn" this game took I have read some of this but I dont understand. The alliances went much the way as the pitboss game more players so 6v5 instead of 3v2. Could it be my settling agressivly I dont see how as they are on the other side of the alliance structure and it seems a prudent move on my part. The pauses and stuff well that was just crap luck with Zpv dissapearing the others have resolved much quicker.

I am leaning towards respectufully declining not to settle the spot. I will offer a nap or other assurance but will also accept war (I dont think he can crack it early enough) If he gets some axes on the forest hill before I can chop it it may be difficult but I have troops comming to dislodge them

You probably noticed that we had withdrawn our axeman during the pause following your anger over his placement. I will continue to withdraw him, but only so far. Please do not continue further with your settling party.

I am glad to hear the Broker33 that I am more accustomed to and I hope that your stresses will pass and not interfere with in-game relationships. On the topic of stresses, I wanted to inform you that mh is essentially withdrawing from the game as a result of the ridiculous turn this game has taken, and I will be the primary and sole diplomat for the team.

Well these things are subjective, of course, but I can't see what you've done wrong. You don't have a settling agreement, so naturally you will settle wherever you wish.

Also, mh/kodii seem to think you "owe" them something for your "cordial" relations, whereas you patently are part of two opposing and pretty hostile alliances.

It seems fitting to the game situation that your relationship should be strained bordering on aggressive, and I don't think it should be taken personally. (Though in all fairness that's probably an assessment that is easier made by a lurker than by someone who has invested months in the game.)

Ok I didnt respond to the email. Settler group moved forward and his axe is parked on the hill. There is also a barb archer in the area.

Settler group will be in place next turn unless he declares war on me then it will be in two turn when I move the 9 additional HA's into place to attack.

Going to have to divert one of my elephants to take care of a barb swordsman that has appeared east of capital.

We will see if Kodi declares otherwise he cannot prevent settlement.
