Sullla, you should do a Lich run sooner rather than later. I personally find that the most interesting class and one of the harder to master classes because there seem to be so many management aspects to it.

+1

I liked the Archmage videos and reports as well. At least from my experience I think classes like Paladin and Barbarian King are pretty straightforward, whereas the mage classes require more skill and thought.

Just watched Sullla's archmage video. yikes Wow. Very impressive skills on display. My game play looks nothing like that. lol

I was also impressed with the power of the spells his archmage was casting, and the size of the mana pool. Focusing the skill tree purely for the archmage is really powerful. My current NG+ heir is just over level 200, compared to 160-something for Sullla's vid, but with points scattered all over the tree my heir is much less powerful in many respects. Of course I am playing many classes, so those scattered points pay off for melee heirs. But the effectiveness of focused skill selection is impressive. It would be very cool if the devs could add an option to play as a single class, rather than having to suicide unfortunate non-class heirs.

On Calypso's Compass (mentioned late in the vid), I managed to find the secret room with it once. The entry was just in the middle of open space in mid-air in a large room, with nothing to indicate it was there without having the compass to hunt for it. So it is not something you can find by just keeping an eye out for a discrepancy, unlike the fairy chests that are sometimes hidden in a room without being marked on the map. The secret room had two chests, and they seemed to give treasure at a higher level than you can normally find -- I got an Imperial item while in my initial run through, and I never saw anything else from the fourth column until I got into New Game+. Maybe just a fluke, but if I get the compass I make a maximum effort to reach wherever it is pointing.

IKR? crazyeye NG+ is kicking my butt, because I can't dodge all the projectiles. In normal game difficulty I had my gear setup so I would get +10 HP back after every kill - getting hit a few times was no big deal.
But since vampirism doesn't scale at all, now I have to dodge everything.

I thought it was pretty impossible, but since Sullla has posted a NG++ video cruising through the game with his paladin I must admit it's my lack of skill. lol

Does anyone want to try a variant?

Its pretty simple, I call it the 'Dark Souls' Challenge after that particular game (obviously):

- You play as a Knight/Paladin
- After putting 1 point into HP to unlock the rest of the tree, your max HP level = MP level/2 (round up)
- You must full clear the dungeon once per New Game, NG+, NG++
- To finish the challenge, you must beat NG++
- Your score is your level (lower the better)

And that's all there is to it. wink Obviously, this is a challenge to build a heavily shield/MP dependent Paladin. Anyone up for it?

I am getting better at NG+, and am now regularly clearing the castle and forest areas plus a bit of tower or dungeon. Khidr has been killed, but my first couple attempts at Alexander have failed. But yes, the increased number of projectiles in NG+ is making things very difficult -- I don't like to even think about how bad NG++ will be. yikes

Watching Sullla seemingly effortlessly dodge entire showers of projectiles, while also narrating and discussing the game and his strategies, is rather humbling.

I have been using a balanced mix of vampirism and siphon, as I make heavy use of spells even with my melee-oriented heirs. But I think I am going to need to shift towards more vampirism, and see if that helps with NG+. Too many heirs are dying while still having a fair bit of mana left, so obviously the mix that was sufficient for the initial game is not right for NG+.

It does give an idea of what level of skill I should be aspiring to develop. There are certain categories of rooms that I just won't even attempt, because I know I will take massive damage (if I survive at all). But Sullla just goes straight into the crowds of enemies and hailstorms of projectiles and flying spike balls and whatnot, and demolishes everything. yikes

Still, I am improving steadily. And watching Sullla's vids has shown me a few more moves and tactics I can incorporate into my game. That double dagger move he was using on the portraits was really nice, for example -- those things have been giving me so much trouble. Of course, I need to pump up my mana damage further to have any hope of two hits being enough. But I can adapt some of what he is doing even with less damage.

Plus his vids are really entertaining. popcorn

I think this is my best run to date, and I managed to capture it for YouTube. Barbarian #17 via the same single character challenge, NG++ difficulty. Hope it's interesting to watch. smile

Nice run.

One observation though, have you ever thought about saving the breakables in easy to access/safe rooms? Same principle as saving statues for chicken and potions. Tedious but can be quite helpful. The start room is a good candidate.

The fountain never got used. I think it would've been a full clear if you'd been able to go back and get the 500HP or so that it would've given you.

OK, I just found out that I can be satisfied with having beaten the normal difficulty...Holy cow, some of the rooms of NG++ are just insane, especially down in the Dungeon when you hardly see a thing. scared
