What is your mandate? A lightly edited or straight-out-of-the-box torusland map? You seem determined to do very little editing. If so, is it worth generating a bunch of maps to see if the script can come up something more balanced?

I think its lightly edited/natural looking. At this point I'd hate to reroll, and I think this one can be balanced enough without any overt editing.

Ouch... Why didn't Suttree have an event fund yet on turn 38?

Turn 38 and new to the game?
Doesn't surprise me. What would people do with Yell0ws citadel? Personally I would pillage all the way, as the gold now will easily outweigh twice the gold in 40 turns, and the chance of the defense or visibility being a factor is very low/not worthwhile, especially if it costs a unit to secure it.

Suttree, when you read this, you are building too many buildings. You can see you are trailing in food/MFG, so get some settlers out!

Quote:The 4-movers can get one pillage in each while the entire force moves along at 3 moves per turn - still faster than anything else out there. Except any massed mage group out there, which, y'know is your main competitors plan (and presumably Suttrees, but I suspect he will die long before sorcery). Also, every normal horsemen stack (remember mercs can be hasted too!), any raider stack, is equivalent to any midgame melee stack, any sea attack, and moroi.

I wonder if Mardoc is being a little optimistic regarding taking out suttree's stack; three ice elementals a turn (two if a PoW is being used for Slow) probably aren't going to do a whole lot more than feed exp to a Paramander (presumably more incoming) fortified on a forest hill.
Suttree's defensive strategy is completely baffling to me...
First of all, why did he abandon the forest hill his paramander was on, when Mardoc first started advancing? That was a great tile to make a stand- it blocked Mardoc's movement, and a couple 'manders fortified on it would have had like 14 strength each, before promotions. Plus Medic I and easy access to March. That would have been enough to at least significantly stall the attack. But then he retreated his units- and is now offering his capital as a sacrifice? Why? Surely there's no need for such drastic measures- just park everything in the capital and counter-attack if Mardoc gets cocky. If Mardoc keeps slowing every unit, he can't attack with more then two elementals a turn at most, and those are unlikely to crack a couple defending paramanders, so Suttree should be able to just hunker down until he can build an adept (for haste). This is like certain BTS games I've seen, where a player under attack just keeps retreating their frontline defenders, until they're all but eliminated and are forced to make a doomed last stand in their final stronghold. Stop giving up land, fortification bonuses and the initiative for no reason! That says to me that it is likely that Suttree is invading, presumably with firebows, and starting to do some damage. It also suggests that Suttree's homeland is lightly defended. Lastly, Suttree must be feeling confident, else he'd have used his world spell to remove Mardoc's Ice Elementals from the equation - another reason why I don't think Suttree is the defender in this conflict. He can determine where the battles are taking place if he checks the war weariness numbers for both of them. That's probably not something a global lurker should tell them about, though. Mardoc's power fluctuations don't necessarily mean anything either if he's summoning elementals.
