[Spoilers] Fintourist and Old Harry have nothing to see here

I'm blaming Fintourist for this one.

Yeah, I think I agree.

At the same time you're right that we can't cripple our snowball for the sake of peace of mind. Two not-immediately-helpful comments from this: I kinda do wish whoever it is to the south of suttree would take this opportunity to attack him, so we could get some heat off of us and security till we reach medieval units, and perhaps we need to start thinking about how soon we can get the HE for constant unit production in one city without impairing the rest. What's our highest-XP unit, and what's a realistic timeframe on teching Literature and building the thing? Is this a reasonable goal given our other priorities?

Sure, it would be nice thing to be completely safe, which we indeed aren't.. I admit! This kind of balancing between military and economy is a tricky thing..

I have mixed feeling about the coming turn. I kind of want suttree to move in. If we would use that GG, our first 5 fights would have odds and if our RNG luck is decent that stack becomes immediately a non-threat. On the other hand that extra barb axe brings some pressure and some extra time to heal Hydra+Mero to full health would be nice.. Well, it's not in our hands.. crazyeye

Because of our Philo beeline, Literature probably needs to wait a bit. Unless we want to tech Aesthetics + Literature + Drama instead of CoL and try to grab the music artist. It would also be nice to trade marble from some of our neighbors before we build HE. E.g. plako has both stone and marble.. banghead

If suttree does not move in, let's cover our worker e.g. with yossarian+spear. If suttree moves in it all depends whether we attack his stack and are succesful. Unless our excellent rolls continue we might need Yossarian in the city and our worker needs to retreat.. please

Damn that barb axe is ruining my sleep. That's just a terrible and unlucky timing.. If we would need to deal with only those 6 suttree axes our situation would be pretty comfortable. That extra axe makes everything a lot more complicated..

Btw, I think suttree is going to attack. Otherwise I don't see much sense in stacking all those axes on that jungle tile.. rolleye

Turn 104 prologue

Logged in right after the turn rolled to offer whale-horse to everyone we know...

Sent to TBS, Plako, dtay and Ichabod, YM don't have horse, we don't have a trade route to slow and we're at war with Suttree.

Speaking of whom. No movement and no extra units. If he chopped a couple more axes and came at us with 8-10 we'd be in more trouble again.

The barb axe moved up, so I like your idea of putting the spear on the hill with the chopping worker to make sure a bad roll doesn't cost us a worker. What do we do with the chops and whip?

Ok guys, as much as we're talking about not making economic sacrifices, if we allow him to accumulate twice as many units without doing anything, our eastern area is done. Like it or not, we have to build units to match.

Turn 104 main course

Some excitement on the interturn - Commodore must have got the Hanging Gardens, catapulting him into third. Why isn't he near to Pindicooter this time? cry Plako's work boat is waiting on some clams, so his borders must be about to pop. He played before us last turn so I'll log in when he's done to move the galley past. That will at least give him something to think about (according to Fintourist, who is just mean.)

At Jamestown the chop goes into a granary. If Suttree had bought more axes up it'd go into an axe or bow, but we're feeling cocky right now. We simmed seven axes against three bows and a spear in Jamestown and we won half the time. You can check it out here as us or here as Suttree (but you'll need RBmod - sorry). So if our shock axes can take out some of Suttrees stack we're confident. If he adds two or three more axes we can whip a bowmen in Hastings and Jamestown next turn then chop an axe in Jamestown the turn after. If not we'll add another chop to the granary next turn and then have the chance to whip like crazy if needed. Should the worker start a mine next turn? Against the barb axe Yossarian gets 97% odds while in Jamestown Oxy gets 92% odds. Fingers crossed.

In the west LP uncovers more land. Once we have Caste System the border pops will make these potential cities good very quickly. I want the fish/pig city where I've marked because it's tactically more useful for our navy, but it's a little way down the track. Rowain is heading back to make sure barbs can't spawn NE of the clam when we're chopping these jungles. The plan for France is to start a settler next turn to send towards Slowcheetah, then intersperse with work boat builds when we've got cottages to grow onto.

Gallipoli will start a worker next turn, build it for two turns then double-whip and overflow into the library, hopefully letting us double-whip the library sooner. We now have sugar, dye and two banana online and our demos have improved markedly. We'll get the galley for the Slow city from BoP nearer the time.

BaII uncovers another m_h border, the city could be where the cursor is or could be 1S. not much food around there though. smile

Demos - who's number one baby?

Thanks for the reminder! Honestly! thumbsup Yeah, we can't let suttree gather a force that we can't handle! However, I would claim that the situation is currently under control:
1. We have a clear enough picture of suttree's power. That pile of 6 axes should pretty much be suttree's whole military apart from couple of city defenders.
2. Especially if we don't lose that high-odds battle against the barb axe we have all the necessary means to handle that 6 axe stack if suttree advances.
3. If suttree adds more units, we have those responses that Harry described in his report. Remember that our units are also more experienced and bowmen work generally quite nicely against axes.. We also have spears in the area.. We are well equipped. For now..
4. And we have an emergency GG that we can use if the situation becomes too dangerous..

However, you are totally correct. We are not allowed to lose our focus and we have to react properly if needed. Let's assume that suttree's power grows during the next 5 turns. Yes, we probably have to add more units in that case.

We have to survive until Hastings pops borders, that's still 6 turns or something. Hastings' border pop will make everything a lot easier. Suttree can't anymore use that road NW of the axe stack for forking purposes and we can finally improve our wet corn as long as we protect our worker with a spear (some surprise galley attack to corn tile is theoretically possible too).

Also if suttree does not cover that stack with a spear we may want to build couple of chariots and see if we can start killing his axes. hammer

mischief Very nice report and even better move from Commodore. thumbsup This a very even game with many civs in competitive position. On the other hand, there are a handful of civs that are just doing amazingly bad. With suttree, m_h and also slow & Jowy/TBSW as neighbors we will definitely get a chance for productive warfare. Assuming of course that we play our hand well during the next 50 turns. mischief

Quote:Should the worker start a mine next turn?

Probably yes, we want improved tiles for Jamestown and before Hastings pops borders we can't really improve the corn.. cry

That rice is good news! jive I think we have a fair chance to get that spot and we actually might want to settle for it before going for more eastern dyes+clams spot. Food in first-ring is winning even though we are not that far from caste artists..
Remind our workers (S of France) about this next time when they plan roading.. crazyeye

Quote:Demos - who's number one baby?

Slowly getting there.. Far away from position where we want to be, but still grinding. hammer 2 pop growths at the end of this turn, 2 more coming next turn, settler eot105. Baby steps, baby steps.. As already discussed with Harry in the chat, the prime time of AGG's maintenance benefit is coming and hopefully we can soon really start utilizing our SPI trait. Lurkers, cross your fingers for our Philosophy play! please

Turn 104 dessert trolly

Logged in and hooray for plako!

Before I accept I'll just check that no-one else accepted using Xenu's click the icons on the top-right trick... dtay, you are my favourite! Fintourist suggests in a couple of turns we should offer plako open borders + world map + 5gpt (he pays us as he's got the great lighthouse and has an extra trade route in most of his 9 cities). After that I think we should offer Yurimack a map trade and finally TBSJ. That should give us pretty good visibility on the world in the order of danger of the players.

So just for you THH we'll have a chariot available next turn. (BTW - am I right in thinking that if I fortify YossarianLives and the barb axe attacks he'll heal 15% at the start of next turn?)

Someone is an expensive team mate! wink

Finally Plako finished his turn and moved his work boat away so I moved the galley to find... two workers on a hill! The micro gods will be angry Ichabod... I think we'll go NW-NW next turn and back around to pick up Lunch.

Reply

To your question - I'm almost certain he'll heal (after defending of course).

Yay on chariot; I suggest putting it in Hastings. Oh and can you check its odds on the jungley axes when it comes out?
